With the 'Keep The Beat Going EP', Black Barrel unveils the next evolution of his unique sound. With much of the world on hold for the last year, he has been busy with a new production alias, Leo Cap, finding new inspiration to keep his beats flowing whilst working at 140.

He has tuned and refined his workflow during this process, changing his approach to sampling and combining this new energy with the raw passion for drum and bass production that makes his music stand out.

Taking part in the 'Dub Wars Season 2' competition during the pandemic gave Black Barrel an instant connection with the fans, communicating directly through his music during the intensely fought musical battle. Channelling this new passion and emotion into four tracks of incredible drum and bass, this EP is some of his best for the label yet.

This month for our label mix series, we felt it was only right to let Philth take the lead on this with his album taking the spotlight. He put this mix together to give us a better understanding of his musical journey and a taste of part one of the album. 

Philth: "For this Dispatch label mix I wanted to focus on Part 1 of my album 'Moments in Time' and dig deeper into my history as a drum & bass fan, DJ and producer....
The mix features my LP tracks rolled out with some of my favourite tunes from 2019, but mostly my favourite tunes ever, the music that inspired me to become an artist and has shaped my tastes in the twenty years since I first started collecting vinyl. I've grateful and very happy to work at a label where I can write, play and release music with such a wide range of vibes and influences, and I'm looking forward to presenting Part 2 soon"

London based house duo Saison have, over the last few years, carved out a niche entirely of their own. Named the best deep house artist of 2018 and 2019 by Traxource, they have released on some of the most respected labels in house music, including Defected, Toolroom, Large Music, Suara, Sonar Kollektiv, and more, and have remixed titans of the scene including Jack Back and Chez Damier. With a unique sound that incorporates influences from their disparate backgrounds, Saison’s music is raw, heady and deeply involving house music at its very best.

Saison’s sound is characterised by a truly timeless quality and firm focus on groove, deeply rooted in the music from their early, formative years of music discovery. Warm chords, intricate drums and evocative soulful vocals are blended to masterful effect to create records that are easily accessible, but that also reward repeat listens due to the intricacy and sophistication of their production. For Saison, it’s about more than simply making you dance: it’s about evoking an emotion that stays with you long after the music has stopped.

Significant milestones in Saison’s career to date include the release of Moments on Large Music which was 2019's highest selling deep house song on Traxsource. Further successes have come on their own label, No Fuss, with releases of note including Senor Blues, I Need Ya One Day and their remix of N-You-Up’s Jazz Bar, while Please Don’t Go on Guesthouse has amassed over 2.5 millions streams on Spotify to date. The success of these and many other releases have made them in-demand as DJs, with tours in the USA, Japan, Europe and South Africa.

The two had very different musical paths that brought them to where they are today. Matt grew up in the United States, immersed in the Midwest rave scene, listening to house and techno and revering electronic luminaries like Chez Damier, Mike Huckaby, Derrick Carter, Armando and Terry Mullan: artists who still inspire and influence him to this day. Leigh’s introduction to electronic music came via the illegal rave scene on the outskirts of London, with initial forays into acid house and breakbeat moving into vocal garage and house after attending the legendary Rulin’ parties at Ministry of Sound, soundtracked by the likes of Danny Rampling, CJ Mackintosh and Heller & Farley.

Key to Saison’s success is their ability to meld their extensive and at times disparate influences into records that are both respectful to their source and entirely unique, crafting deep, underground house music that works on crowds both large and small. Both Matt and Leigh have an undeniable passion for and unwavering belief in their creative process as Saison; something that is evident in the both the quality and accessibility of their music.
