The final part of our 5 year celebrations are here and just like our second part, we've asked a wealth of talent to remix some of the classics we've had the pleasure to release over the years. The final batch of remixes showcase the variety we've always prided ourselves on, from classic liquid vibes by Echo Motion and Hazqa, jungle flavours by Karma Kingdom, jump up by Colossus and deeper vibes by Enok & Option collaborating for the first ever time.

Up first, Enok & Option team up to take Mindloader's debut Detached offering down a deeper direction, while bringing out the best in both of their individual styles. This is followed up by Karma Kingdom returning to the label to flip K2T & Sirus' 2018 classic, 'Rwenzori'. By keeping true to the original and updating it with chopped amens and a more rugged bassline, Karma Kingdom showcases his unique take on Drum & Bass effortlessly once again.

Colossus steps to the plate next to rework Linear's track 'Calling' and transforming it into a jump up monster, showcasing this talent's versatility. Echo Motion's remix of 'A Carousel in My Mind' by K2T & Sahara follows, taking the hip hop original down a liquid Drum & Bass route, as Echo Motion does best. This EP is concluded by Hazqa, who takes K2T & Echo Motion's playful 'Arctotis' down a more mellow direction while maintaining the essence of the infectious piano hook from the original.

It's been a pleasure providing high quality music for the last 5 years and as we at Detached move into the next 5 years, we can't wait to continue staying true to our ethos.

Following the success of the all Evolve affair we are back this month with another special show to mark our 80th outing. This month joined by legendary MC, Fokus.

Having emerged onto the scene in the early 00’s, based in Hertfordshire, Fokus has been building his reputation locally, nationally and internationally for over 20 years.  We first met on Hertfordshire’s Impact FM around 2000/1.  We were also lucky enough to acquire his talents for our Drum Project events.

From his time on Origin FM, to London events like Traffic, Renegade Hardware and the legendary Therapy Sessions, Fokus has been learning his craft well.  I was lucky enough to watch him at his best at the Sofa Sound event in Bristol in September 2019, he was absolute class.

As you can see from his discography, versatility is key.  Fokus is at home on a deep rolling beat as he is on the toughest and darkest of drums.  Right from his first release in 2011 to now his choices for collaboration are important to him.  A long standing partnership with show favourite label, Dispatch Recordings, has been a constant exemplified by last year's release of his solo release the massive ‘Frequencies EP’.  Now working with other artists including DLR, Black Barrel, Dub Head, DBR UK, Tephra & Arkoze, Bredren and Ben Soundscape.

He has said… “I think it’s important for an MC in the Drum and Bass scene to evolve with the music and avoid the clichés. I like spending time on my written rhymes, but I also try to freestyle as much as possible. It’s more spontaneous and the crowd can really vibe off it. For me, a radio show is the perfect environment to chat about some deeper rhymes, as people can hear every word and appreciate the story or message within the lyrics”.

Expect lots of new music, an extra special last one and a special 4or5From as i’ll be having a chat with the man himself. Talking about everything from his start in music, collaborations, listening to some of his releases and even a chat about Happy Hardcore.

The "JDNB Family" mix series is focussed on the artists we have working with us at JDNB and the second entry is a jungle and drum & bass mix brought to you by Bren.

Bren has been a part of the JDNB journey and family from very early on, from Editor, to Chief Editor, and now the JDNB Website Manager.

Hailing from County Durham in the North East of England, Bren's music legacy picked up traction in 1984 when he first began mixing hip-hop and electro, then progressing onto the underground realms of breakcore. After showing the many strings he has to his bow, then witnessing the birth of jungle and drum & bass, this is now all Bren mixes (apart from an occasional flirt with breakbeat).

Now residing in East London, Bren still thrives on the old-school jungle style and, even though they are recently released, you will find that the tracks in this mix all hold the same old-school fundamentals.
