How did your musical journey begin and when did you know you were "Only Fire"?

I was always very introverted and music has been my form of escapism since a young age. So as a teenager I started learning how to produce music out of boredom because I didn’t have much else to do. As for my name, I was just really uninspired at the time and chose “Only Fire” when I started uploading trashy beats and remixes years and years ago on YouTube and then I just sticked with it. If I knew people would actually start listening to my music I would have put more thought into it, but I only started doing this for fun without thinking it would become my actual career. I do wish I could change the name since I find it kinda corny now but rebranding almost never works.

There is a very futuristic approach to your productions that really make them stand out. How did you first come up with the signature siri-like vocal in all of your tracks and how has your creative process evolved over the years?

I just really wanted to create actual songs with lyrics and vocals and not make beats only, but I didn’t wanna use my own vocals and at the time when I started I didn’t know any artists that would wanna collaborate with me. So I got this idea of using the computer generated vocals and it worked out perfectly.

You grew up in Croatia but just recently relocated to Berlin. How has life in these cities impacted you as an artist?

In Croatia I wasn’t going out much at all, I would just be in my room making music. So I feel like it’s good that I grew up there because if I grew up in a fun place like Berlin I would probably never get into producing music since I’d be too distracted. After moving here I really started going out a lot, you just can’t escape the club scene when you live in Berlin. Sometimes it can get a bit too much so it’s good to get away to other less intense cities for a bit, but experiencing the clubs here really impacted my sound in the last year and actually made me enjoy DJing.

How similar are you to the female robot character we hear in all your tracks?

Although you have been DJing for some time now, this is your first official mix release right? What inspired this mix?

I released 1 mix before this, but it was a year ago when I started out DJing with my Traktor Control that I literally just bought, I wasn’t even familiar with CDJs yet. But my DJing style changed and evolved so much since that and I don’t think that first mix represents my current style at all, so I’d like to treat this Tunnel mix as my actual first release. I wouldn’t say anything specific inspired this mix - I just wanted to play fun and cunty music like I always do in my sets.

Only Fire is not my actual name :O

Favorite thing to do outside of music?

Probably eating. Or watching a good movie or a TV show. But I’m very picky when it comes to finding what to watch.

One album that changed your life?

Hard to choose only one since there is so many artists and albums that inspired me over the years. But if I really had to choose it would be Sophie’s Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, that album made me experience music in a whole different way, the sounds and textures she was able to create are truly insane and one of a kind.

Dream collaboration?

There is so many artists I wanna work with but my #1 is probably Rihanna. Birthday Cake is the reason why my music is like this.

Can we expect a full length project soon? What is next for you?

I’m just finishing up my EP that should be out really soon. Also there’s some very exciting features that I’ve been working on so stay tuned ;)
