Jack Laidlaw - Red Light Remix

This was my final piece for our minimalist project. Started with me wanting to sample Bjork's "All Is Full Of Love" into a song.

The song features the piano and xylophone playing the same melody over a number of octaves for 4 minutes before the outro. At the start the piano is panned hard right, unfiltered, however the xylophone is panned hard left with a high pass filter on it. Gradually both instruments swap their places with, at 4 minutes, the piano panned hard left filtered and the xylophone panned hard right unfiltered.

The bass follow's Bjork's chord progression and was made through Reason's Subtractor synth alongside a compressor. When I mixed it in the studio it seemed fine however in class through Alesis monitors it seemed quite prominent, much to the dismay of myself, yet the class, including the tutor, were extremely positive about it.

As for the vocals I found a rough a cappella and used the song's title lyrics. Gradually the phrase "All Is Full Of Love" is said. At the start of the assignment I planned to use phase but it annoyed me too much however I liked the outcome. During the vocals the word "Love" sometimes appear, almost interrupting the main vocals as if to "answer" the statement. Also at the end of the song you can hear the outcome of the phase better as the vocals start to repeat and repeat.
