Linkris releases his new single ‘Tyd is Verby’ (time is up) featuring Dope Saint Jude

The man who is seen by many as being the “people’s champ” when it comes to apologetically addressing socio-economic issues and injustices which plague the Coloured community of South Africa is back with a new banger. This time he partnered with Dope Saint Jude a lady who is taking the international stage by storm and who is also well known for addressing controversial topics in her music and in her everyday walk of life. 

This time however, these two activists are addressing a different elephant in the room; they are communicating the message that the time of up and coming artists being excluded from opportunities within the music industry, simply because they do not stick to the status quo, IS OVER! 

Both Linkris and Dope Saint Jude are known releasing music which contains socially conscious-revolutionary lyrics laced over “in your face” hard hitting beats, but on ‘Tyd Is Verby’ they are hitting you with smooth vocal delivery over a laid back baseline and nicely curated vocal samples created by none-other than the young musical genius Stuwi W.

The two emcees who are constantly pushing the boundaries and undoubtedly flying the flag for Afrikaans Hip hop in Southern Africa has decided to collaborate. This song speaks about hustle, hard work and finding loop holes to make things work for yourself. Both Linkris and Early B are artists who have created lanes for themselves in the South African Hip hop market. There's certainly much that can be learned by watching these two artists work. While each of them have their own respective rap styles when they do solo songs, on Hustlah they have created a lyrical harmony which gels perfectly with the instrumental.

As a tribute to Cape Town and the broader Hip hop community, Linkris has decided to release a free project, symbolising that unity in Hip hop is alive and well. The concept behind Giftige Venootskappe is simple: There is power in collaboration! Most of the songs that form part of this series were created while Linkris was travelling both national and internationally. The aim of this project is to showcase some of Hip hop’s most talented, hard working but often un-noticed artists. Giftige Venootskappe is Hip hop in it’s purest form and contains various languages and very contrasting personalities too! 

A new song will be released on a bi-weekly basis so stay tuned to Linkris’ social media pages for updates.

The first single ‘Bom Bom Shit’ features Klein Fortuin, Amy Brown and Jedi Knight.

The song features an interesting delivery and rap style that is evident from the get-go. Although there is a major emphasis on contrast, the transitions between each artist remains pleasant and seamless. Bom Bom shit speaks about independence, entrepreneurship as well as teamwork to achieve collective goals. 

The song has a hard hitting sound and some hardcore lyrics which takes listeners on a journey into true boom bap style Hip hop. 

Bom Bom Shit also serves as a refresher on what Hip hop music and culture is all about: Pure honest Expression of Self.
