Over the past year or two I’ve made a few different bootlegs & unofficial remixes—just for fun, really—which ended up circulating amongst some A-list DJs. They all got a tremendous response, with everyone from Nicole Moudaber to Danny Tenaglia to Green Velvet coming back with support (big 🖤 @concretepromo who serviced it exclusively!) Now, with some time passed & everyone locked at home hunting for new tunes, I wanted to make these available to everyone.⁣

This is the second one I’m giving away and it was originally done at Dennis’  (Static Revenger's) request after he noticed one of my tracks appear on the DMCWorld Buzz charts the same week as one of his.  I had met him years before at Icon Collective and had remixed a track for him for a Scion promo campaign—but we hadn’t spoken in a while, when I got a e-mail from him with a screenshot simply asking, “Is this you??”

We got to chatting and he offered me the opportunity to remix “Happy People” on spec.  Armada already had a line of big-name remixers on the package and although I knew it was a bit of a long-shot obviously I gave it a go.  What I came up with is probably one of my most favorite remixes I’ve ever done.  Dennis loved it, and I thought I had a really good shot at making the final package...but in the end A&R decided it was too similar in vibe to another remix from one of the big names.

Obviously I was massively disappointed, but when the release finally came out, I understood why—adding another clubby tech-house remix would have skewed the package a bit.  All of the mixes were really big names, too.  And, although I do look back it as an opportunity missed…it was really just a case of time and place.  I put forth my best effort and & what happened was really no fault of my own.  It was a great lesson to me about opportunity, timing, and networking.  It opened up new relationships for me and taught me the necessity of always putting in your best effort.

Dennis always told me I could give it away but always felt a bit weird about it.  (I also secretly hoped I’d be able to re-sell Armada on the idea of a release! lol.)  But, now that I’m opening up and sharing some of these, this one definitely need to be included.  Thanks for listening... xDB
