Over the past year or two I’ve made a few different bootlegs & unofficial remixes—just for fun, really—which ended up circulating amongst some A-list DJs. They all got a tremendous response, with everyone from Nicole Moudaber to Danny Tenaglia to Green Velvet coming back with support (big 🖤 @concretepromo who serviced it exclusively!) Now, with some time passed & everyone locked at home hunting for new tunes, I wanted to make these available to everyone.⁣

The first of these is my remix of Dennis Ferrer’s classic tune “Hey Hey.” The instrumental for this had been sitting on my desktop for a while—I just couldn’t find the right sample/hook & was debating bringing in a vocalist. At some point during that process, I thought about trying it as a bootleg around the “Hey Hey” vocal but didn’t really want to waste the instrumental on something unofficial. So...the project sat unfinished for nearly a year.⁣

Finally curiosity got the better of me but the project file & the acapella were wildly out of key. I ended up having to transpose everything a full tritone to get it to work—but to my surprise the main bass/synth lines sounded even better after the change. Funny how that works sometimes.⁣

This one probably ended up being the most well-received of the bunch, Solardo even led their radioshow “The Spot” with it—which was super cool for me. Hope you dig it too! Thanks for listening... xDB

Now, with some time passed & everyone locked at home hunting for new tunes, I wanted to make these available to everyone.⁣

This is the second one I’m giving away and it was originally done at Dennis’  (Static Revenger's) request after he noticed one of my tracks appear on the DMCWorld Buzz charts the same week as one of his.  I had met him years before at Icon Collective and had remixed a track for him for a Scion promo campaign—but we hadn’t spoken in a while, when I got a e-mail from him with a screenshot simply asking, “Is this you??”

We got to chatting and he offered me the opportunity to remix “Happy People” on spec.  Armada already had a line of big-name remixers on the package and although I knew it was a bit of a long-shot obviously I gave it a go.  What I came up with is probably one of my most favorite remixes I’ve ever done.  Dennis loved it, and I thought I had a really good shot at making the final package...but in the end A&R decided it was too similar in vibe to another remix from one of the big names.

Obviously I was massively disappointed, but when the release finally came out, I understood why—adding another clubby tech-house remix would have skewed the package a bit.  All of the mixes were really big names, too.  And, although I do look back it as an opportunity missed…it was really just a case of time and place.  I put forth my best effort and & what happened was really no fault of my own.  It was a great lesson to me about opportunity, timing, and networking.  It opened up new relationships for me and taught me the necessity of always putting in your best effort.

Dennis always told me I could give it away but always felt a bit weird about it.  (I also secretly hoped I’d be able to re-sell Armada on the idea of a release! lol.)  But, now that I’m opening up and sharing some of these, this one definitely need to be included.  Thanks for listening... xDB

Static Revenger // Happy People (Doc Brown Bootleg): FREE DOWNLOAD

This is the third one in the series--but is actually the first "unofficial remix" that made a top-flight circulation.  I remember that when the original track first came out, I was young & really into the big beat sound.  I came across it via music video & remember my first impression was that "Bullys" was not the right plural of bullies.

But then that chorus rang out and the beat kicked in & I absolutely loved it.  It was right up my alley.  I don't think many people into the States were into the song, and I was always curious how people really felt about it.  When I started to DJ via Traktor years back, it was one of the first acapella snips I added to the collection--it was a clean, easy loop to make and use.

When I was asked by management to create a bootleg track to bridge a gap in-between releases, I knew I didn't want to do something super obvious and this one just felt right.  The beat was something I had been working on but didn't have a hook for--and it was in key.  I stripped away the breakdown I had written and replaced it with bits of the original track & constructed the synths and drums around them to build it back up into the instrumental drop.  That was the most fun part of making it, I think.

Anyway, it was cool to see the varied support come back on it with lots of cool names from Golf Clap to Tommie Sunshine to hometown hero Oscar G.  Now you can have it too!  Thanks for listening... xDB

Audio Bullys // We Don't Care (Doc Brown Bootleg): FREE DOWNLOAD

This is the fourth & final one I’m giving out this round and it’s a pretty cheeky club classic.  The hook coupled with that classic ringtone set dance floors off when it first came out, and to be perfectly honesty the chunky main riff still sounds just as good today as it did then.

I had actually all but forgotten about this track until a sailing of Groove Cruise a few years back.  My girlfriend and I had dressed up in these amazing 80s tracksuit outfits with wigs, and as a prop we also had a giant inflatable 80s-style cell phone.  The night led into the morning and we ended up at a crazy afterparty in one of the suites on the very top deck…with the inflatable cell phone in tow.  Somehow or another (as these things often go) everyone was playing around with the phone, making jokes, calling 911, and eventually singing the chorus to the old Mario Piu track!  Right then I knew I wanted to make an update of the track but never really got around to it.

By this time last year my original tracks were getting pretty good DJ support, and some of the earlier bootlegs had just blown up amongst some pretty high-profile DJs…so once again to bridge a release gap we looked to get another “unofficial remix” out there.  Right away I knew I wanted to tackle this song.  At first I wanted to only use the sound of an iPhone vibrate, as an update—but it didn’t fully translate so I ended up bringing the original ringtone back in.  If you listen closely though, you can still hear the iPhone vibrations throughout!

This one really did well, too, all across the spectrum—Green Velvet, Waze & Odyssey, Kryder, Tuff London and many more all came back with support.  Fedde Le Grand dropped it in his Dark Light Sessions show and even Steve Silk Hurley said he loved it.  It’s always cool for me when my tracks get played by DJs of a variety of different styles.  Anyway, now whatever style you play—you can grab it too!  Thanks for listening… xDB
