The songs contained herein are all live tracks from various venues as far away as The Wormhole in Savannah, GA and as close to home as The Heavy Anchor in St. Louis, MO. As such, the sound quality and aural textures are just as varied. 

Here at the Doc Otis Apothecarium, we have attempted a modicum of aural continuity across the tracks. However, given the nature of live recordings in general, the acoustic variances of the different rooms, the variation in mixes from different live sound engineers and the various recording equipment utilized from venue to venue, we could only do 'so' much.

Opossum Holler (Video: https://youtu.be/z3EE6FTr20U), is from Doc Otis's latest single, The Bugland Session. The lyrics for Opossum Holler were taken from a story, imagined by the sax player's grandfather, Glen Thomas (Tom) Sloan. Tom, who is also the face/logo for Doc Otis, developed the storyline while the band was on their 2016 Southeast Spring tour. As many of the lines as possible have been kept verbatim.

Doc Otis is a junkyard jalopy jazz, steamboat swing-slathered sax guitar (sometimes percussion) which has been distilled in the lead-laden foothills of the Missouri Ozarks & deep fat fried in a vat of the Big Easy.

Doc Otis’s sound is a combined result of the insanely high lead contaminates they was subjected to from very early ages, coupled with their experiences of sight and sound in New Orleans.   

Combining the dark insanity of junkyard jazz, an upbeat yet soot covered steamboat swing then, deep fat fried in a vat of the Big Easy, Doc Otis creates their very own unique and danceable soundscape.
