Xsample Woodwinds - Quick demo of an ensemble (Bassoon, Alto Flute, Eb Clarinet, Contrabassoon)

This is one of two official demos I recorded for the most excellent people of Karoryfer Samples, highlighting their unique library Glockenskull Guitar. Thanks Drogomir Smolken for the opportunity; an honour really! There's a video of the Ableton Live project up on Karoryfer's YT channel.

This one has a bit of an afrobeat feel, and I used the sample almost like it was a clavinet, which was a fun thing to do.

I recorded this in december 2020 and for a change this is a little idea I am actually quite fond of and want to elaborate on and turn in a complete piece. Some day I guess.

Instruments used on this one:

1. The piano is the felt one from Spitfire's SA Recordings series, the library is called OPW - after Oliver Patrice Weder and it is the first one in that series. It contains samples taken from his debut album I believe - including this really intimate upright

2. The strings are Spitfire's Originals! Intimate Strings, which really are brilliant value for $29. I regularly use them for chord sequences like this. When paired with Spitfire's Apassionata (to add fantastic legato sustains) I think many people would't really need much more in terms of string libraries with this type of sonic character

3. The solo violin bits near the end are Embertone's excellent Joshua Bell violin. It's the Essential edition (I don't own the full library) and it is just the most expressive VI for these types of lyrical expressive solo lines.

8Dio Deep Quintet Strings - demo 1 - Triphop (original music by 4hero)

This is my second demo using and showcasing 8Dio's new Deep Quintet Strings library. My goal was to try it out on a classical piece with a lot of "Max Richter" like repetitive string lines so I figured why not completely spoil this gorgeous composition by the master himself: Philip Glass.

I can't say I am satisfied with this outcome but since I like to document the process rather than the results, here it is - warts and all.

Near the end you'll hear two small bits with the cello line solo'd. The first one has some equalization applied as well as reverb. The second iteration is the cello patch in all of its bone dry glory.

I made a little demonstration video about Insanity Samples' Celle ONE virtual instrument - for a post on a composer forum. As part of that I challenged myself to record a mini demo under 15 minutes. This is what I came up with, for better or worse. All a bit silly and as usual I may not be doing the instrument any favours.

I was inspired by a couple of things when I wrote this ambient drone song called Alienation. I had listened to Sylvian's breakup album "Blemish", while I was pondering the lyrics of Pink Floyd's "Time". It lead me to Wrongtool's excellent NODAL library and I laid down 5 tracks of moody bass strings. Every track was then mangled with Moogerfooger effects plugins to add even more grit and noise. I then wrote the lyrics, strongly influenced by said Floyd song and some of my own dark fears and feelings, and had them performed by Solaria (Synthesizer V plugin).

Literally the first thing I ever recorded 1 minute after purchasing UAD OPAL. Just a bit of fuckery for laughs

I was priviliged to be able to be part of the beta test team for Libre Wave’s Lyrical Bansuri library. And I am honoured one of my demo’s is featured as an official demo on their website.

For this piece I have exclusively used the legato patch, with a touch of Eventide Quadravox applied, so basically every note sounds like a power chord. Of course the inspiration for this was the Fourth World musical paradigm of Jon Hassell.

Entering Hassell's Fourth World (official Libre Wave demo)

This is a short piece I created as a demo song for Libre Wave’s beautiful Lyrical Bansuri bamboo flute sample set.

Bansuri flute: Libre Wave (performance patch +  ornaments / and near the end I used some shorts and put them through some Fors Instruments Bokeh delay to create some extra textures)
