It’s time to get historical up in this piece because MOVIES ARE GAY this month and we got some early lesbian erotica on film and it comes from 1930s Germany of all places. It also features our earliest feature film discussion directed by a woman. We’re talking about Leontine Sagan’s German film about love in a girls school and the authoritarian forces that loom over it. No wonder the Nazi’s banned it. The United States actually banned it before that. Manuela’s genuine glow from her love for the most beloved Headmistress in her school shined through a little too hard, perhaps. We’re talking about the 1931 pioneering classic, “Mädchen in Uniform” and it was about a half a century ahead of its time. Mädchen In Uniform (1931)

Time to get to the movie theater once again for a superhero movie that is being dragged in the media for making a mere 130 MILLION DOLLAR OPENING WEEKEND. Yeah, it cost around 200 million but it seems like more people are just willing to wait for streaming and who can blame them? Yes, we watched “THE FLASH” by Andy Muschietti and starring the controversial Ezra Miller alongside some classic and contemporary DC movie actors. Somewhere within the nostalgia dump, the low chemistry and the questionable CGI choices lives a heartfelt, focused, story that was ultimately never meant to rise above the mediocrity. DC and Warner Bros. has done far worse, admittedly. Is it at least fun? Hear us out.

Folks, we’re in the final week of MOVIES ARE GAY and if you thought we were gonna settle on Rainer Werner Fassbinder for our sad boy fix then you were very much mistaken. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (JoGoLe as his closest movie reviewer friends call him.) really went hard in the 2000s, and this movie he starred in alongside Brady Corbet was perhaps one of the starkest examples of the results of childhood sexual abuse ever put to film. One of JoGoLe’s best performances here in Gregg Araki’s 2004 flick “Mysterious Skin”. It’s fucked up. NGL. We promise to end MOVIES ARE GAY on a more upbeat note but this movie is incredibly sincere for its intensely descriptive subject matter. Unique and challenging. It’s worth your time if you can handle it. Hear us tell you all about it.

Mysterious Skin (2004)

The heavy hitters roll on this month as we touch upon our theme of “Strange Romance” and we get to a Paul Thomas Anderson movie that seemed to come quietly at it’s time and now we revisit Reynolds Woodcock (lol), dressmaker for House Woodcock (lol) who has fallen in love with a pretty waitress, Alma, who practically crashes into his life in a way he can’t let go. It’s a story of two people who are drawn to each other until they finally discover the elements that make them inseparable. We’re talking about “Phantom Thread” from 2017 and our boy DDL is in it so you know it humps. It’s a strange love indeed.

Phantom Thread (2017)

This month we’ve been catching up on some hyped up movies we missed from last year and we finally got around to Baz Luhrmann’s big bright biopic “Elvis” starring a pretty damn great Austin Butler and Tom Hanks in a rare psychopathic performance as Colonel Tom Parker. Elvis (2022)

We end July, and it’s co-theme of “Catching Up”, by finally getting to the 2023 Academy Award Winner for best picture, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” by Them Daniels. It stars the legendary Michelle Yeoh, the lovable Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis as an IRS Karen. It’s a hopeful, reality bending ride that really struck a chord with those that saw it last year. Is the hype real or has this story been cooked too long like an everything bagel in a toaster oven? What exactly is in the Raccacoonie dish? Let’s be real, we’ve been deep in Rick and Morty territory for years so people have been conditioned to absorb such lofty tales. Are we beating a dead horse in terms of ideas and tone? These show notes are getting scatterbrained like this movie. It’s a nicely cast and good looking film for sure. Raccacoonie.

We’re watching some of the earliest Superman movies for week one of our ADOLESCENT POWER FANTASY theme and we felt comfort but got all melancholy watching Richard Donner’s 1978 smash hit adaptation of the comic book icon, “Superman” starring the late Christopher Reeve and the late Margot Kidder. Nope (2022)

It’s that time of the month. You know what we’re talking about. It’s time for our RANDOMLY GENERATED REVIEW and at the end of our last randomly generated episode we selected and movie we didn’t even know existed based on the Charles Dickens classic. We’re talking the 2005 film “Oliver Twist” and it’s not directed by Kenneth Branagh like we so confidently, and blindly, assumed. No, this perfectly fine and well executed film was directed by Roman “Meet me in Jack’s hot tub” Polanski. Yep, the infamous and influential director that can’t come back tot he United States unless he gets arrested for statutory rape. His victim forgave him a long time ago, but there is no “did he or did he not” hear. It’s pretty well acknowledged. You could say that Roman Polanski “artfully dodged” his ass to Europe to get away from these charges. That said, how does Polanski’s “Oliver Twist” stand out from the other many interpretations of the story? Ben Kingsley is pretty good, at least. We RANDOMLY GENERATE another movie at the end of the episode and we think your dad will be pleased.

NEW MONTH. NEW THEME. We’re pumped for September’s theme as we dive into some films that truly embody the nature of “the asshole”. ASSHOLES ON FILM is what we’re slipping into and we’re starting off with a movie chock full of assholes. Brimming with asshole cunts. We’re discussing Martin McDonagh’s worthy 2008 debut film “In Bruges” starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Two hitmen are ordered to go to Bruge, Belgium and they’re not sure why. One is enjoying the town and the other hates it. It’s violent as hell and quite funny. Check it out first of you’re curious. We’re starting off ASSHOLES ON FILM with a gauntlet. A gauntlet of…assholes. I don’t know. They pay me to type out these episode descriptions for them. The only thing is, I’m not allowed to type them at home. I have to go to this warehouse in North Nashville. There’s a desk with an old laptop on it and only one working overhead lamp. Sometimes you hear what sounds like someone just outside hitting the ground with a chain. I’m not great at it but it’s easy money. It pays my tv and streaming bill.

In Bruges (2008)

Our vintage selections for our ASSHOLES ON FILM theme this month involve Sergio Leone’s MAN WITH NO NAME Trilogy and this follow up to the breakout hit maybe has our lowest grade asshole this month but Clint did break that telegraph operators egg yolk and you just don’t do that. We’re talkin’ the 1965 spaghetti western “For a Few Dollars More” starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Clef, Gian Maria Volonte and motherfucking Klaus Kinski. The budget is doubled, the music gets a little more orchestral and the pockets of The Man With No Name swell even more. After a bunch of dudes die, of course.

For A Few Dollars More (1965)

For this month’s theme of ASSHOLES ON FILM it’s important that we touch base on assholery amongst artistry. We’re discussing the show’s very first Coen Brother’s film that we recently caught up with for the first time. We’re talking the Coen’s 2013 film “Inside Llewyn Davis” starring Oscar Isaac in a breakout role as a struggling folk musician in the early sixties on the cusp of the Dylan explosion. He’s gonna lose your cat, he may or may not knock you up and his assholery is in good company amongst the industry he struggles to break out in. Emotionally unresolved issue don’t help either. Greenwich Village is looking strange and sad.

Today’s entry in month’s theme of ASSHOLES ON FILM is the hectic crime drama “Good Time” by Josh & Benny Safdie and stars Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie & Jennifer Jason Leigh. That security guard will never be right again. They poured so much liquid acid into that guy’s mouth, dude. That’s insane. I’d try it. I’m trying to sell my dad’s motorcycle if you know anybody that would be interested. It’s the kind with the handle bars up really high. We can meet up at the K-Mart on Long Hollow. Good Time (2017)

We’re in our last week for our month’s theme of ASSHOLES ON FILM and we had to hit up a flick with our Asshole Theme Mascot, John Wayne. Why not hit up one of the most beloved John Ford/John Wayne westerns ever. Yep, we’re talking about the 1956 classic “The Searchers” starring John Wayne, Jeffrey Hunter, Vera Miles and a young Natalie Wood. The character of Ethan Edwards is quite the racist so you know John Wayne didn’t have to “act” too hard. His racism doesn’t ebb when a particular Comanche tribe kills his family and abducts his nieces. He doesn’t even like the guy who is helping him look for his family throughout the movie because he’s 1/8th Cherokee. He’s a cunt and he will probably kill his niece when he finds her because she’s probably too integrated within the tribe. Also this is Charlie McCorrey’s movie and we’re all just along for the ride. Lauren not immediately jumping on Charlie’s crotch is probably the most baffling thing about this movie. We also have all the hot goss on Nancy “Backlot Special” Reagan. We also name every Little Debbie snack cake. It’s very exciting. Happy Asshole month!

The Searchers (1956)

We end this month’s theme of ASSHOLES ON FILM with someone who might be the biggest asshole in all of film. We think he beats Jordan Belfort, Indiana Jones, Jar Jar Binks and every other asshole we’ve discussed this month. It’s time to break the John Hughes seal and dive right into a real piece of work by discussing his 1986 hit “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” starring Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, Alan Ruck, Jennifer Grey and that guy who is now on a sex offenders registry. This might seem like a fun teen comedy romp about a ne’er do well kid skipping school, and it is also that, but the implications and raw potential of the Ferris Bueller personality to do major damage to society in the future? The implications are horrifying. Dive in with us as we discuss this 80s classic as well as what we mean when we say that FERRIS BUELLER IS ONE OF THE MAJOR FILM ASSHOLES! Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

It’s time to set spooky season off right because it’s HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST and we’re dropping a variety of horror flicks on your nuts FIVE DAYS A WEEK. Yes, every weekday in October there will be a horror film discussion with weekly sub themes and for our Monday vintage selections we’re delving into some HAMMER HORROR vampiric fare! Today we’re discussing Christopher Lee’s debut as a rather seductive DRACULA in 1958’s “Horror of Dracula” directed by Terence Fisher (Or just “Dracula” in England) starring Lee, Peter Cushing as Van Helsing as well as Michael Gough & Melissa Stribling among others. Hammer’s take on the character that was made iconic in the Universal Film starring Bela Lugosi is much bloodier and more sultry than the stateside version. An all-time Dracula portrayal that put Lee and Cushing on the map. A fine way to start off the spooky season!

Horror Of Dracula (1958)

For this second week of HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST we basked in the glory of Larry Cohen’s killer mutant babies and now we close out the trilogy with his 1987 straight-to-video finale to the It’s Alive Cinematic Universe (IACU) with “IT’S ALIVE III: ISLAND OF THE ALIVE”  starring Michael Moriarty and Karen Black. By court order, these mutant babies are the original “Island Boys” (except for the female) and  “They just trying to mate”. But not before so corporate killers  try to hunt them and get shredded. Also, why not send another crew to the island to study these things? Remember when they could tear your face off and run across a city straight out of a uterus? Let’s check them out when they’re five years old! I’m sure everything will be fine. Also featuring stop motion animation, Florida, chill communists and the measles.

It's Alive III: Island Of The Alive (1987)

“Please Hammer, don’t hurt ‘em”. That line is from an M.C. Hammer song. I typed it because every Monday for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST we are discussing a Hammer Films vampire classic and since that film company is called “Hammer” and then you got the musician “M.C. Hammer”, I just thought that would be an interesting thing to type but it’s not. I’m sorry. It’s grasping. Another thing I wish was grasping are these Vampire vixens at my penis after they’ve been turned. Nothing like the glow-up that vampirism provides courtesy of one of cinema’s saddest ever fuckboys. Christopher Lee returns to the role of Dracula in Terence Fisher’s “DRACULA: PRINCE OF DARKNESS” from 1966. Eight years since Lee last helmed the role and he does so with zero words and with intensely forlorn expressions. Not to be confused with the John Carpenter film “Prince of Darkness” that we discussed last week and is available to hear now. Great tips on how to resurrect vampire lords if you’re ever needing to do so. We could all use a good Klove by our side.

Dracula: Prince Of Darkness (1966)

We just can’t get enough Christopher Lee this month so let’s make it five and check out his “Austin Powers” look. You’re the most catholic Scottish cop on the planet. You’re literally abstaining sex until marriage like a madman. You get a letter telling you that a girl has been missing on a place called Summerisle. You go there alone. People are fucking out on their lawns. Children are laughing at you. The old timers are lying to you. The lord of the place has more drip than you. Is this a murder mystery or are you a beetle on a string tied to a nail? We’re capping this week’s HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST with Robin Hardy’s 1973 cult creeper “The Wicker Man” starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee and Britt Ekland. The Wicker Man (1973)

We’re feeling a little melancholy, not unlike Christopher Lee’s Dracula, because this will be the last Hammer Film Dracula movie we will discuss for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST. Christopher Lee appears in three more Hammer Films as Dracula but Peter Sasdy’s 1970 film “TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA” will be our last for the season and perhaps that’s for the best because some of Dracula’s choices seem a little unlike what we’ve come to appreciate from our gothic fuckboy. Not that there’s isn’t some fun things to see, like satanic rituals, fabulous pimps, patricide and the tried and true village hottie. Dracula himself may have lost a few things after so many resurrections but he doesn’t lose that classic presence that Christopher Lee provides. Oh, Hammer. We miss you already. You better believe we will revisit their fare in the future.

Taste The Blood Of Dracula (1970)

For our MOVIE ROULETTE REVIEWS we draw movie categories from a hat and then select movies from a list pertaining to that category and for today’s review we picked a category called A CHALLENGING PERFORMANCE FOR EVERYBODY which is all about actors portraying people with intellectual disabilities and we fell upon the 2003 film “RADIO” directed by Mike Tollin and starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ed Harris. Cuba plays James “Radio” Kennedy, a mentally challenged person who became ingrained into a High School Football program in a small town in South Carolina. James Kennedy is an actual person that passed away in 2019 at the age of 73. Leading roles dried up a little bit for Cuba following this film’s release and we wouldn’t say he did a bad job but this movie will probably give you diabetes and it may be  too easy to predict the next line of dialogue as you watch the saccharine scenes unfold. Our next category selection that we pick at the end of the episode will apply for the rest of the month and what we select is a pleasant surprise that totally works with our November theme of COMFORT FOOD. So sit at the table and let this episode slide down your gullet and find out what that next category is.

Radio (2003)

We humped the hell out of Halloween yesterday and why not just go ahead and do an every weekday drop for this week as well? We’re long overdue to get back to the movies and we’re discussing a much hyped flick that came out about a week and a half ago. It’s based on the true story of systemic serial murder that happened some time after the Osage tribe found oil on some land they were shoved on to. Nothing draws in white men better than their money. We’re talking about Martin Scorsese’s latest film “Killers of the Flower Moon” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons and all your favorite  modern country acts that aren’t wearing wallet chains and black t-shirts with some elaborate ace of spades design on it. This episode discussion gives a little space to the details as we really just analyze some acting performances, compare elements of it to the David Grann book it’s based on and reflect on the overall cultural implications in telling a story centered around the Osage people and this story. MILD SPOILING but it’s all historical so it’s not like the information hasn’t been out there. How does Marty do with this story? Come back tomorrow for some dad boner material.

Killers Of The Flower Moon (2023)

November’s theme is COMFORT FOOD and every Monday we go full nostalgic with a film from our childhood and why not start off the nostalgia episodes with a movie that defined a childhood (and child marketing) for an entire generation? Steven Spielberg was already pretty much Hollywood’s golden boy at the time and it was cemented into eternity upon the success of his heartfelt 1982 magnum opus “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”. For kids of a certain age, this movie was a cornerstone and we can’t imagine it not being effective to many generations beyond. A boy befriends an alien with the abilities of telekinesis, healing, parasitic bondage, drying up like old dog poo and love. The rest is history. Join us in this heartfelt discussion where we attempt to not say curse words and fail miserably.

E.T. The Extra - Terrestrial (1982)

We’re ending the first week of our April theme known as “AWKWARD LAUGHTER 2: THE FLOP” with a selection that is a fond memory from our youth. Apparently, not enough people can say that they watched “KIDS IN THE HALL: BRAIN CANDY” in the theaters when it came out in 1996 but our two hosts actually did pay to see this movie. Or they at least borrowed money from their parents to go see it. The Canadien skit comedy troupe garnered a loyal audience in North America after spending years on basic cable and are absolutely influential to modern comedy. (The good stuff, anyway) It seemed exciting when Paramount opted to release a Kids in the Hall movie but, unfortunately, not much more than the hardcore Kids in the Hall fans went to see it. We were huge fans but were also children who were, admittedly, watching something more adult than our parents intended. It’s amazing what they didn’t pay attention to right under their noses. Decades later we reevaluate a personal cult favorite. A film project that brings about mixed feelings upon reflection for the talented players involved those being the director Kelly Makin and the cast. Shit, we might as well list them: Scott Thompson, Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald & Mark McKinney. There you go. Does this smart character-driven satire of corporations and cynical marketing still hold up? Does it deserve more? Kids In The Hall: Brain Candy (1996)

Christmas is in the can. New Years is just around the corner but it’s still that most wonderful time of the year and your soon to be permanently renamed movie talk feed/show/pod is here with another Christmas classic featuring one of our favorites, Robert Mitchum. A fairly strange tale for the Hayes code time as two men, one a rich niceboy and the other a broke swaggart, are after the same single mother. It’s a dirty game and Connie’s rascal kid has a preference real quick. You know where this will go but it’s an interesting journey to get there with some nice performances. Don Hartman’s 1949 classic Christmas rom-com “HOLIDAY AFFAIR” stands out as worthy little charmer for the holidays. It also stars Janet Leigh & Wendell Corey who plays Carl who, despite being NOT the love interest, might be the nicest guy on the planet in 1949. Mitchum’s “Steve” is not so nice in comparison but you know he’s gonna get you outta them britches. Maybe even late era Mitchum when he was just walking around with those big glasses. He was also constantly drunk. He threw a basketball at a lady and knocked out her teeth. Does that eliminate him as our dawg? …not yet. The needs to be a deliberation period. For now let’s discuss HOLIDAY AFFAIR!

Holiday Affair (1949)

This is it! The final episode of 2024. Happy New Years! Goodbye to the title of MOVIEHUMPERS. For 2025 GOING forward we are THE PROJECTORS. We jump into next month’s theme as early as tomorrow but we close out a most wonderful time of the year with a New Year’s themed flick that we probably liked a little better in our youth. We were certainly the target age range in terms of “pitching coolness” with this ensemble featuring young stars who got their starts in the eighties and nineties. Ensembles can definitely be a challenge. You can’t deep dive into everyone but you really got to establish some personality and spin a lot of plates and it can be confusing to know when your character is funny or if they’re just annoying. Sure, we can see ourselves in some of the characters in this setting of New Year’s Eve in 1981 New York City but sometimes the abyss stares back at you. Risa Bramon Garcia’s only feature film is the holiday ensemble “200 CIGARETTES” from 1999 and it stars many such as Paul Rudd, Christina Ricci, Kate Hudson, Ben Affleck, Martha Plimpton, Courtney Love and Dave Chappell among many others. Elvis Costello is also in this and based on some evidence we see at the end of this film we think that Elvis may have done something very very bad. Like Cosby style bad. Maybe he did maybe he didn’t but there’s some smoke and the implications are there. We should probably detain him and ask some questions at the very least. Goodbye, MOVIEHUMPERS. 200 Cigarettes (1999)

At this point you’ve probably heard Andy Williams say it 500 times…it’s the most wonderful time of the year and in the spirit of Christmas Camp we’ve gone into some deep cut low budget yuletide filmmaking that isn’t without some imagination alongside some tediousness. Maybe it felt so dragging because we’re moving so fast in our technological world, man. Maybe René Cardona’s 1959 film “SANTA CLAUS or SANTA CLAUS VS THE DEVIL” starring José Elías Moreno and José Luis Aguirre is a gift from Mexico to the world in the name of goodness and good cheer and we all need to take our time and soak it in and admire the patience required of peace on Earth and good will towards men. Santa Claus, from his space cloud town antagonizes a demon called Pitch. With the help of enslaved children as well as his live-in lovers, Merlyn and Mr. Blacksmith, Santa attempts get Christmas handled before the demon corrupts all the children. Pitch does corrupt three kids but you completely understand them and are on their side. Santa should truly be shot in the streets like a health insurance CEO for all the child enslavement he’s doing in this movie. January 2025 Preview & Big Show Changes!

We’re deep into our second annual Christmas movie theme and we haven’t mined any material from, or inspired by, the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol”. Fuck it, this year we’ll do two adaptations and maybe catch an old version of the story next year. This particular adaptation was prime basic cable Christmas break material when we were kids and in many ways it holds up and even impresses in certain ways. Bill Murray could carry a comedy in the 80s and his leading role of a stingy TV executive Scrooge-stand-in does deliver some quality jokes bouncing off of an extended comedic cast. Richard Donner’s 1988 Christmas comedy “SCROOGED” remains pretty worthy holiday cheer and there’s no shortage of prime 80s stars including Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, David Johansen, Alfre Woodard and Karen Allen. There’s also some nice appearances from veteran actors of TV and film such as Robert Mitchum, John Forsythe, John Houseman and Buddy Hackett. Miles Davis is even in this thing. Folks, you gotta bring out the bells and whistles when you’re adapting a story that everybody knows. You gotta throw some horror in there. Maybe even a little sadism. Just go with it. You might like it.

Scrooged (1988)

It’s Christmas week here at MOVIEHUMPERS (soon to be called THE PROJECTORS) and we’re hitting up another classic era Christmas romantic comedy. The farce gets pretty thick in today’s discussion but the charm is consistent in this comedy of errors starring a beaming Barbara Stanwyck in Peter Godfrey’s 1945 comedy “CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT”. Stanwyck plays Liz, a society gal who writes fictional first hand accounts of farm wife life. When a nice war hero, inspired by Liz’s articles, wants to stay and visit then Liz has to figure out how to fake it all for the soldier and also her boss for fear of being fired. There’s some contrived other plot points that thread this all together, including an engagement that Liz gets wrangled in to, but it’s pretty hard not to feel the romance between the hunky sweet sailor and the society gal. Also starring Dennis Morgan, Sydney Greenstreet, Reginald Gardiner and S.Z. Sakall. If only she could tell him the truth and keep her job. I mean, she could. Why should her boss care? She’s moving magazines ain’t she? Stanwyck is a worthy comedic lead and this is one of the funnier of the Christmas Classics we’ve discussed.

Christmas in Connecticut (1945)

It’s Christmas Eve! Bob bless us everyone. We will let you pick into your stockings early and give you a holiday themed 6-Pack featuring hour long stop-motion TV specials by those seasonal legends Arthur Rankin & Jules Bass. Or just Rankin/Bass if you wanna get nasty under the mistletoe. These are the specials, a few based on some old hit Christmas songs, that generations came to know and love and added a mythology to the holiday season that still seems to resonate in pop culture. You know who we’re talkin’ about. Rudolph, Santa, Heimey, Topper, Aeon, Heat Miser, Mrs. Claus and the Great Ack. Everyone loves the Great Ack. These specials span over two decades. Rankin/Bass Christmas: Movie Review 6 Pack

Merry dang Christmas. Yeah, we got a Christmas Day drop. Angela is making us work on a major holiday for little to no (zero) pay. She’s a real “Ebenezer Scrooge”. This episode of MOVIEHUMPERS (soon to be “THE PROJECTORS”) might be the loosest one yet. Way more loose than your mother. What are we saying? Why are we being so antagonistic? Is this what Christ would have wanted? It’s HIS day. HIStory. The fuck is “wassailing”? I don’t know let me look it up… “To encourage the spirits of the trees to ensure a good harvest”. Wow, it’s about crooning the trees so that you get bountiful cider. Real old world shit. Wassailing turned out to be cooler than I thought it would be not unlike “THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL” from 1992 starring Michael Caine and our felty friends, The Muppets. Directed by Brian Henson and the first Muppet film after Jim Henson’s death. We all know the story. Hell, this is our second film adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” this month. The real question in every adaptation is, of course, “What do the ghosts look like?”. A bit more unsettling considering what one might expect from the world of Muppets. Could a Muppet ever be an official Moviehumpers/Projectors “DAWG”??? Truly, I Miss Piggy might be the only one. We love how she attacks people. She sparked our lifelong love of karate. The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

With Christmas in the can, now Hanukkah’s the man. When it comes to holiday themed movies, Hanukkah might be even more scarce than Thanksgiving but for the third day of Hanukkah we got the Sand-man coming up in the clutch with the 2002 animated holiday film “EIGHT CRAZY NIGHTS” directed by Seth Kearsley. By “Sand-man” we mean, of course, Adam Sandler who wrote and produced this crude animated comedy that isn’t without laughs and a bit of charm but does it merit the category of contemporary holiday classic? When it comes to Adam Sandler fare, we’re all over the place. We’re very up and down. We never know how we’ll feel. He hits it for us or he doesn’t but nothing but respect for the Sand-man who seems to be a very very good friend to the people he came up with. Sometimes he even sacrifices a good movie for his friends. Is that the case here? Why do all those horrible things keep happening to our boy, Whitey? He’s the sweetest dude. His sister, Eleanor is the most consistent laugh in the flick. Also…poo. Is there enough poo in this movie? It’s a musical too but we can only vouch for the quality of one song. “Technical Foul” actually goes. Remix that shit for the clubs. Happy Hanukkah.
