Genix, presents ‘199X’ (Chill Edition): a reimagining of his debut artist album, '199X', featuring chillout, ambient and drum & bass remixes from the man himself.

A love letter to rave culture, ‘199X’ is a departure from the sound that Damion Houchen, who we affectionately call Damo, is best known for. Through the late 2000s and 2010s, he caught the ear of Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk with his textured, melodic take on trance. He secured releases on both Armada and Vandit.

Genix arrived on Anjunabeats in 2010 and immediately became a mainstay in Above & Beyond’s sets with tracks like ‘Aura’, ‘Destinations’ and ‘Black Water’ (the latter written with regular touring partner Sunny Lax). From those origins, Genix has blossomed into a mainstay of the trance scene.

‘199X’ dropped on the label in September 2021. Since the album’s release, Genix has taken ‘199X’ to Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 450 celebrations at The Drumsheds London, Dreamstate, and our recent label shows in London and Miami. Tracks from the album have been supported by Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Gabriel & Dresden, Darude, Joseph Capriati and more.

While making '199X’, Damo was also listening to a lot of early chillout staples. He recalls,

“During the pandemic, I had a lot of time to listen to music. I’ve always loved chillout and downtempo music, I find it great to relax and wind down to. It reminds me of laying on the beach in Ibiza, listening to FC Kahuna, Hayling, Massive Attack and some of the chill out remixes Michael Woods used to make."

Shortly after finishing '199X', he set about reworking it entirely. He swapped acid bass riffs and pounding kick drums for calmer textures and soundscapes.

"I thought it would be great to try making some different styles too, push my boundaries a little and I feel it has made me a better producer for it. Honestly, I’m really happy with how it has turned out, I think musically, it’s the best body of work I’ve ever produced.” - Genix

After a seven-year hiatus, French electronic artist Croquet Club, AKA Jeremy Villecourt, releases his first full-length album 'Fugue in Twilight' on Anjunadeep's sister label Reflections.

The eight-track project is a departure from Jeremy’s previous, up-tempo releases. 'Fugue in Twilight' is slow-moving and reflective; created free of ego, comparison, chasing and striving. It’s a compelling and cinematic body of work that will cement Croquet Club’s reputation as a gifted, authentic and unique electronic music producer.

Jeremy started working on 'Fugue in Twilight' in early 2022. After so much time away from the Croquet Club project, he felt the pressure was off and expectations had dissipated. As he re-entered his studio and captured threads of ideas, he felt ready to return to the Croquet Club project for the right reasons; the ones he started with in the first place.

Jeremy treated his process delicately. Every day before he entered the studio, he meditated for close to an hour to turn inwards and reach a non-judgemental state of consciousness. This became a crucial part of the songwriting process.

He then channelled that energy into his creative process. “I’d get down to the studio, turn on the synthesiser or pick up the guitar, and start to play. And most of the time, I’d just play and nothing would happen. And sometimes something happened, and I’d record it.” He did this for about two months, saving threads of ideas, and reviewed everything all at once to see what had potential. “And then I made choices,” Jeremy says. “I deleted stuff, I kept some stuff, and when I had a batch of nice ideas, I worked an extra day on each one of them.”

This meticulous, self-assured and heartfelt process is what makes up the new album 'Fugue In Twilight'. The authenticity and purity seeps through every note, key and melody, pouring from one heart to another. The first single on the album is ‘Slowly’, about the human need for love, solace and intimacy. Jeremy layers his own vocals with hazy keys and nostalgic guitar, alongside lyrics about solitude and our relationship with ourselves.

Jeremy recorded the entire album as if it were live, playing every instrument himself without any loops. “It took a long time,” he says. “I had to write the music, write the lyrics, rehearse every instrument, record each part one by one, then mix it myself.”

Jeremy did it all himself for the experience. “It was like crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a rowing boat,” he says. “I could take the ferry, I could take the plane, but I chose to challenge myself and see how far I can go.”

Dae Kim is a music composer, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker (born 1993 in Seoul, Korea) residing in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His composition typically revolves around soundscapes of electronica and ambient music which he mainly utilises key-based instruments ranging from different synthesisers and rhodes. As he continues to expand his palate of different soundscapes, Dae Kim has recently incorporated guitar and accordion into his compositions. Much alike to artist such as Vangelis, Ennio Moriconne and Nils Frahm, Dae Kim shares similar ambience with his usage of orchestration and synthesisers. Noteworthy for his versatility in creating songs of various genre, Dae Kim’s compositions consist of rich emotions, thrusting drums patterns and quirky scratching techniques that embedded his characteristic through each songs.
Since his early years in Malaysia, music has always played a major part in his life. He release an EP entitled “ </3?!” in 2015 which opened many doors of opportunities for him to explore deeper in his musical journey. Ranging from scoring to composing for artists such as Jin Hackman and Stemilyn, Dae Kim later got in touch with Mü-nest’s founder, Wei. And since then the album was an on-going collaboration for a span of two years.
His first LP entitled “Solace” is out for stream.
