Diving deep into the heavenly, surreal universe of the German duo Trashlagoon and their first release on Délicieuse.

The title 'Struggle' is the leading single extracted from their album 'Blue Empire' set to release January 2014. Sebastien and Niklas deliver us a sleek and euphoric sound, supported by the effectiveness of the piano gimmick. We admire their powerful yet subtle identity, a crossroads between UK garage and German deep house influences.

Madmotormiquel, commander in chief of the leading label URSL (Soukie & Windish, NU, Lake People, etc.) honors us by taking on a spin of the title. His personal touch brings a new energy to the original, with a backdrop of a racing deep house beat. Supported by names like Hannes Fischer, Nico Stojan, and Rampue.. this track already proves to be promising.

Our man, Viken Arman, reinterprets the title in a romantic and dreamlike way, utilizing his signature "pianistic" style (the harpsichord). Once again, we’re blown away by the quality of his production. Always polished and in accordance with the original track’s approach.

This release well identifies with the duo’s universe that they’ve since portrayed in their August release of "Daily Winter". For the upcoming months we’ve got only good things in store : a live exclusive in Paris, another single set for November, and a vinyl release exclusively available on the Délicieuse..

Doin It Right

Ben Smith return with a raft of solo material after his debut release on NuNorthern Soul back in 2012. The Movedrill projects saw Ben weave between rock and folk roots and this latest projects sees Ben push the folk sound he has become known and respected for. Renown as a multi instrumentalist B.J. Smith is perhaps best known for his wonderful ‘Dedications to the Greats’ release which have seen him cover Mos Def, The Pharcyde and OutKast in his own unique style, Ben is also half of Balearic super duo, Smith & Mudd and one third of White Elephant with Jim and Chris from Crazy P.

This release forms part of a series of x3 12”s and will include mixes from Jonny Nash and A Man Called Adam.

Between Ship and Shore is a selection of folk songs that Ben has been crafting between his London home and summers spent in Cornwall and the results speak for themselves. One man and his guitar and his tales of time spent by the wonderful coastline of the South West of the UK and a hint of the Scottish Highlands.

JJ Cale, Terry Callier and John Martyn all influence and inspire Ben, and this is apparent in his subtle yet powerful tales.

'Hold On To It' utilises Ben's harmonious vocals and guitar playing skills to set the mood and building towards the main body of the track which unleashes a barrage of drums and percussion, the calm before the storm one might say, while the nagging vocal refrain of ‘Hold On To It’ urges the listener to do just that… 

'We Can Sail’ once again see’s Ben show his great vocal skills, this sublime relaxed outing washes around the listeners like the gentle waves lapping the shore. Ben adds brass stabs and harmonies that take this tracks soaring into the blue skies and adding plenty of space to allow it to soar and swirl like a gull on the sea breeze.

Jonny Nash takes ‘Hold On To It’ and adds his unique and prestigious style to proceedings, creating an ambient journey of early morning fog bound coastlines with haunting guitar work that ebbs and flows like the tide and adding off kilter, muted vocals to create the erie ambience of solitude and calm.

DJ Koze's 2013 album opus Amygdala has continued to bewitch all who encounter it since its release. Tipped as his own personal Sgt. Pepper, the sublime long-player revealed a fully-realised and personal body of work, complete with a classic songwriting at its core, House in its heart, and veins coursing with psychedelic color. La Duquesa' was the album's dreamy single standout, a journey into deep, tropical ecstasy. XTC' begins in the same spirit, and captures the all the blissful allusions of its name, but its initial gentility belies the deep intensity to come. Floating pads glow with celestial ambience as a kick drum is gradually coaxed into solid form, and the introduction of spoken text begins the second act. Many people are experimenting with the drug Ecstasy,' it says, ...is the drug like the lie and meditation the truth Or am I missing something that could really help me". XTC' then transforms: sweetly imploring tones become demanding, gentle gradients between chords turn hard-edged, and sharp hi-hats cut through the haze. Complete with Koze's signature percussive quirks, it drives towards the track's final pay off: an undeniable, all-consuming, irresistible high. Knee On Belly' recalls Koze at his most tongue-in-cheek and overt, it is bright, bold and literally brassy, using cut-up horns of all shapes and sizes to patchwork together his own unique arrangement. With the highs and mid ranges accounted for, Koze adds in a swollen, thrumming bass line to mix to bring this floor-filler to life. Knee on Belly' recalls a raw, filtered and funky approach to groove, with a nod to disco house and the art of artful sampling, as it orbits between its own neon highs and simmering lows.
