I heard a live recording of a marvelous Pianist Misuzu Tanaka.  She performed on a 1907 Bluthner concert grand piano that Rachmaninoff and his European and Russian contemporaries might have played.  What stood out for me, is the incredible dynamic range of this early pianoforte.  Ms. Tanaka performed Moments Musicaux, Op. 16 by Rachmaninoff.  I fell in love with her performance, the piano and musical work.  I have small hands, so Rachmaninoff was off limits for me. I was expecting to hear a grandiose and flashy yet brilliant piece with lots of embellishment and drama.   Instead, I heard an emotional piece with intricate and delicate embellishments; and expressive rubato melodies with space between notes; and moments of very slow, and molto pianissimo passages, that seem to be improvised throughout the work. As a result, I created my own version of Moments Musicaux.  Thank you for listening! as always thanks to hitoshi yasui of chairhouse for his wonderful daily piano improvisations and for allowing us to record our version of  "in a an increasingly callous world" which he recorded on january 3, 2018 as part of his piano ten thousand leaves project.

thankful to have had this music to work on with my musical friend guillaume over these last difficult quarantine weeks. hope everyone is safe and well, persevering and continuing to make music. play on soundcloud friends. this too shall pass.
