‘Sinister Affair’ is an introduction to the more-shadowy corners of the band's sound. The freaky guitars, brooding vocals and paranoid lyrical themes all serve to depict the sobering realisation that a previously-worshipped darling isn’t who they appear to be at all. Conceived on a detuned Baritone guitar, the song borrows from the toil and trouble of The Wytches, Alice In Chains and Humbug-era Arctic Monkeys. While this stylistic left hook has the possibility to perturb fans of their previous single, it’s this sort of manic unpredictability that never fails to excite the duo as listeners.

'Electric September' is the third single from Dog Food's debut EP 'Gloom Moves'. Maintaining the ferocious sonic palette of its Grungey predecessor ‘Sinister Affair’, the song features relentless drumming and blistering guitars that run amok underneath the duo’s seamless vocal exchange to make for an unpredictable yet melodically satisfying thrillride. Recording began in 2016, when Brad set out to formulate his then-solo EP. Over the successive years, the track’s individual components were painstakingly assembled in isolation before the pair united in 2020, with Will offering up his vocal/keyboard talents to usher the track into the soundscape of their newly formed venture.

‘For Free’ laments over idleness and wasted opportunity: it’s about trying (and failing) to grab the reins as life seems to pass you by. Despite the frustrating subject matter, it’s a hopeful and optimistic-sounding ditty. The influence of Folk and Soft Rock songwriters like John Martyn, Nick Drake and Mac DeMarco are somewhat to thank for this, with their influence extending to the tasteful restraint of the production too. There’s wistful, pretty elements like sparkling guitars, twinkling pianos and luscious harmonies that enrich the song with an undeniably gorgeous sense of melody; all the while the meandering bassline and intricate drum part slowly build an infectious sense of groove throughout. While ‘For Free’ showcases a softer, more genteel side to the band, Dog Food’s love for interesting chords and jam packed arrangement continues to shine through, stronger than ever.

‘Gloom Moves’ is the debut EP from Hertfordshire-based duo, Dog Food. Offering up their exciting new take on the Indie Rock schtick of old, the release boasts 5 meticulously constructed, entirely self-produced tracks that veer excitingly from nefarious Grunge to honeyed Indie in an instant. In that regard, the tracklist certainly lives up to its unpredictable namesake. With some of the songs being conceived as far back as 2015, the EP truly is a musical depiction of the pair’s formative tribulations within the melancholic monotony of their suburban surroundings. The self-designed cover art even features silhouetted cardboard doppelgängers that leer menacingly in the background and serve as a constant reminder of their vicenarian woes, albeit with a hint of a wry smile. It’s this underlying visual and musical eccentricity, borrowed from varied influences such as Mac DeMarco, Nirvana and Superfood, that they hope makes this thrilling labour of love worth the long and winding wait. ‘Gloom Moves’ enters the foray on 19th September, when the bell tolls midnight.

The gut-punch-love-drunk-madness of falling for someone you shouldn’t bursts from every inch of Dog Food’s new single, Straight Out. The song was born as melodic Indie-Folk, and has grown into a Blues-tinged Alt-Rock ruckus, bombarded by pounding bass, devilish guitars, energetic drums, and much more. A headline show and a new EP are in store for Dog Food, but for now Straight Out's darkly funny visuals depicting a depressed musician losing himself in a VR landscape are sure to charm fans.

Dog Food’s most powerful tune to date, new single ‘Silly Boy’ explores a hopeless romantic’s misplaced and under-appreciated love. It’s a story told softly at first, by jangly guitars and velvety vocals, but the pressure builds, and the song bursts into an angsty-Grungey-Alt-Rock-singalong anthem. Waltzing and soaring, crooning and bellowing, Silly Boy is a massive and constant favourite at live shows. Upcoming EP ‘Dinner For Who?’ will show a deeper side of the band and Silly Boy is an integral part of that. Inspiration from artists as disparate as Frank Ocean and The Cribs seed new ideas in this new single but Dog Food’s usual tricks remain; melodic bass, pumping drums, intricate harmonies, and everything Dog Food’s fans have come to love.

Silly Boy

The third single of Dog Food’s eagerly awaited follow-up EP ‘Dinner for Who?’, ‘Rainy Day’ is a nostalgia-tinged, home-studio-recorded song calling on Beatles-era Pop-Rock. The lyrics reminisce about childhood and its carefree moments, and how to get them back in adulthood. A notion mirrored singer Will Crane’s joyous melodies and Brad Palmer’s jaunty and endearing guitars. The star of the show, however, is the piano it was written on. The 70’s inspired Baroque-Pop song unveils yet another musical flavour in the Dog Food palette, one shared by bands such as Silvertwin, Lemon Twigs, and The Magic Gang. Its release is partnered by the first of the band’s music videos to feature all five group members, in various different locations.

Rainy Day

Cosmic, funky and full of life, Go Your Way is a genre-bending, space-themed tune for dancing in the kitchen. Influenced equally by old funk and soul, as by new indie-pop, Go Your Way keeps both alt-rockers and pop-boppers happy. The lyrics depict a man disassociating so hard from life he feels he may as well be in space. The track was recorded at a home studio in Hertford, where the two frontmen Brad and Will were born and bred, and have been shaping their upcoming EP ‘Dinner For Who?’. This final single comes with the bands best and most ambitious music video to date. Two musicians in giant paper maché heads, bowling around the chaotic streets and fairgrounds of Southend. What more could you want?

Go Your Way

A blast of nostalgic Indie energy, ‘It’s Only There’ is packed to overflowing with melody. An intricate mix of jangly guitars, swooping bass and lead singer Brad’s honeyed vocals slather the song with Indie Sleaze-era-attitude. The mix of innocence and wisdom you can hear in the arrangement is mirrored in the lyrics, musing on the thought that there’s more important issues to focus on than one’s love life, but it’s hard not to let it overwhelm you. Recorded at home, but masterfully produced, this heavily requested song had a sold out crowd dancing and singing along at the band's recent debut headline show. What better song to energise new EP ‘Dinner For Who?’, and entice fans to upcoming live shows?
