Idle Palace - Lighthearted Violent Pedagogy

Hello!

I am a huge fan of Slay the Spire's, especially its soundtrack. The pieces from the soundtrack rattle around in my head for hours. I couldn't stop myself from making a track inspired by its dark and gripping sound!

I attempted to mimic the instrumentation, orchestration, harmony, and the melodic writing that Clark Aboud used in his work. I don't have the same digital instruments that Clark used, although that would be nice! I don't claim to have perfectly captured it, in fact, I tried not to perfectly mimic it. I am happy with the result, which is something akin to Slay the Spire's soundtrack, but with my own spin on it.

Also, I hope you enjoy! Show some support if you'd like to hear more tracks like this!

Hello all,
Please enjoy this piece attempting to emulate the style of Risk of Rain/Chris Christodoulou.
It begins as a sort of "survival-horror" bending of the genre, but transitions into a more traditional RoR vamp.
I broke several, probably hundreds, of rules in terms of what a piece from the RoR OST should contain... but I had fun doing it!

As some may have seen, my PC got wiped when this was almost done about 6 months ago. I'm kinda glad it did, because it turned out way better than it was going to be!

Tear In My Heart |-/ Twenty One Pilots Orchestra

Hey there!

Here's my first adventure into TØP's Regional at Best. It was fun!

One thing I noticed is that the verses have nearly the same chords as their song Heathens. Funny that this song's lyrics were inspired by a girl who went to the same church as Tyler, AKA the "angel" in this song. The only difference in the chords is that in Ruby, the verse resolves on a minor chord, and in Heathens, it resolves on a major chord. This is ironic because one would think Tyler would resolve on a minor chord in Heathens to represent the negative connotations of a "heathen," and resolve on a major chord in Ruby to represent the positive connotations of an "angel," but this is not what Tyler chose to do. Maybe in Ruby he wanted to emphasize his own desolation ("tell me where am I from") due to feeling, inadequate I guess, in the shadow of Ruby, the angel. Maybe in Heathens he wanted to emphasize the comradery of his heathen friends ("all my friends are heathens") despite the negative nature of a heathen.

Maybe I like doing musical analyses!

Anyway, expect me to cover a song from Blurryface next, as I haven't really done that, not counting Tear in My Heart.

Ruby - Twenty One Pilots Orchestra

Hey there, stranger!

So here it is, long awaited I'm sure, my tenth Twenty One Pilots orchestra arrangement!

Trench is such a sick album, it has tons of melodic variety, different harmonies/moods, and the drums are  
f a n t a s t i c.
Not to mention the lyrical depth.

My Blood was the piece I gravitated to because A. it was one of the first I heard and B. it actually has a good "pitch-to-madness" ratio (meaning it's easily translatable into a harmonic progression, as opposed to, say, some ambient screaming in the background, or just a long rap without too much harmonic variation (lookin at you Levitate (still fire tho))).

Enough rambling,
Tyler, or Josh, I suppose, starts off the song with a heavy, syncopated drum beat. At certain points the kick drum almost emulates a heartbeat, signifying the "blood" in the title. The counterplay between the casual, lower, "I'll go with you," and the falsetto, higher, "You don't need to run," sets up a great narrative that really plays well into the music video. They capture such a unique mood in this song (by using the Dorian mode of course (music term)) and it remains my favorite on the album.

With 10 covers, I think I'm gonna take a break from arranging Twenty One Pilots for now. We'll see what I do next, it might be different or it might not be. Thanks for reading this far down tho!

Here's a little cover of a song from Twenty One Pilots' album Trench!
I hope you like it.

Begin analysis:
I get numerous impressions from this song, when considering the lyrics, the sound design, and the harmonic choices that were made. The chorus, for instance, talks about, you know, getting beat to smithereens for a special someone, as a sort of gift, or good service, despite the personal costs of such a beating. It's a lovely sentiment, and the chord progression in the chorus is rather triumphant too. The thing I like most about it, and I promise, I have the utmost respect for Tyler Joseph (and friend), but I get a sort of pathetic impression from this song - an impression that the lyrics admit to! "Step to a dude much bigger than me," "I'll be in the corner taking notes," are a couple examples. This might be obvious, but I believe he is purposefully comparing himself to people or groups that he may believe are greater than he is, and claiming that he -will- get beat to smithereens by "them," but he's gonna do it with dignity. And this is what I appreciate about this song. Perhaps the moral he could be trying to convey is that being "pathetic," or vulnerable for someone, deliberately, whether it be in the shadow of a tougher dude, or even a person you feel inferior to just based off of virtue or talent, is the best gift one can give. Not only that, it is also a truly dignifying perspective to have, and in a way, triumphant.
