I'm a huge fan of Young MayLAy from the west coast and he can spit.  So when we finished mixing the album, I wanted to keep the lyrics and put a brand new beat to it so that it sounded like a whole new song."

MC Eiht chimed in to XXL with his own comments "When I originally got the beat from Brenk (Sinatra), rather then do something that glorified hustling, I wanted to drop something more along the story-line of how it’s so stressful in the streets.  Then Premier sent MayLAy and I a beat and it just fit my vision of how the game used to be perfectly; knowing hustling is still a necessary evil and having to deal with everything that comes with it.  Preemo heard the final product and said it needed to be on the album; so now its official."

A straight menace, MC Eiht burst onto the scene with Compton’s Most Wanted Music To Driveby.  Released just months after the LA Riots, Music To Driveby was a manifesto for the nihilism, frustration and anger that permeated the region and is universally hailed as a Gangsta Rap classic. 

Similarly, Eiht also contributed vital components and compositions to genre defining movies, offering the chilling “Growin’ Up In The Hood” to Boyz N The Hood and following up Music To Driveby with a star turn as A-Wax in Menace 2 Society, which included his stand-out contribution (“Streight Up Menace”) to the movies soundtrack. 
Though accredited as MC Eiht featuring Compton’s Most Wanted, Eiht took on a more singular role with We Come Strapped, which was certified Gold and peaked at #1 on the Billboard charts and his sophomore solo project Death Threatz which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Charts. 

While Eiht has always remained active; including an EP release (Keep It Hood), his scene-stealing appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, m.A.A.d. “I’ve loved this track ever since the rough draft” DJ Premier chimed in.  “When I was mixing the song down, Eiht kept saying :Got That” after the verses and I was going to put some scratches on it.  I’m sitting at the board, saying the three lines to myself because I felt like it would fit in the blanks.  I decided to go in the booth to record it and see if it would blend with the song.  I’m not a fan of my own voice so I sent it back to Eiht for approval and his replay was literally GEAH.”

Just hours after the relaunch of Payday Records, the iconic record label has released its first song “Our Streets” featuring legendary producer DJ Premier and A$AP Ferg, which is available today via digital retailers everywhere. “Our Streets” is the first song released by hip-hop and EDM pioneer Patrick Moxey’s newly relaunched record label. DJ Premier is reunited with former Gang Starr manager Moxey as the first artist to release music on Payday Records. 

“Our Streets” is a true New York hip-hop track, combining DJ Premier’s signature beats and A$AP Ferg’s versatile style to create a classic, raw and energetic sound. The song marks the first time the legendary DJ and rap star have worked together, despite both being prominent figures of the New York hip-hop scene for years. 

“It's a dream to be able to work with the legendary DJ Premier on this record” stated Ferg. “Preemo has worked with all the NYC hip hop icons and greats - Nas, Biggie, Guru, Hov, KRS-one, and The Lox. Just knowing I was working with him pushed me as an MC.” 

"With Ferg, or anybody I work with, they already know my history so they know that I come from the 90s era” DJ Premier said. “Ferg just automatically said 'Don't do what I've been doing on my albums - I want you to do a Preemo style and let me show I can rap to that,' so I was like 'let's do it.' “Our Streets” is available now, and is the first song released by the newly relaunched Payday Records. Patrick Moxey, who is the President and Founder of Ultra Records, Ultra Music and Ultra International Music Publishing, originally formed Payday Records in New York City in 1992. Payday was the first record label to sign Jay Z, releasing his first single “In My Lifetime” in 1995. Other artists signed to Payday throughout the 90s include Jeru the Damaja, Mos Def (via his first group U.T.D.), Showbiz & A.G., Group Home, Guru, WC and the Maad Circle and more. DJ Premier played an integral role in Payday throughout the 1990s, bringing artists like hip-hop duo Group Home and rapper Jeru the Damaja to Payday for release, and producing a number of the label’s biggest hits including “Come Clean,” and “Supa Star.”

When Conway proclaims on his opening bar “I don’t beef on the internet I approach you,” over Preem’s anthemic boom-bap, the modernization of an aesthetic from NY’s storied street rap movement comes full circle; and you are simultaneously transported back to the block when trunks rattled from blasting a new gem from a just released Clue tape.  

With Griselda, bleak tales of survival and violent escapades are the topics at hand and DJ Premier is a conduit artistically elevating the sound of the life they lead. The legendary D.I.T.C. crew has long been one of Hip-Hop’s most influential crews.  Over the course of the last two decades, both collectively and individually, its core members have created some of the genre’s most timeless and iconic music.

Today, the D.I.T.C. crew begins to usher in a new era and does so by introducing a new young voice into the D.I.T.C. fold with David Bars and by announcing his new project, 'The Bar Code,' along with a new single “Beat The Odds” which features and is produced by DJ Premier.  “Beat The Odds” was exclusively premiered by HipHopDx.
