CATACLISMA

Domenico Cataldo was born in Cercola, near Naples (Italy) on 13th May 1974. He moved with his family at first to Rome, and next to Como at the age of 7. He began to study guitar in the teenage, inspired by The Edge (U2), Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, later he landed to the analys of more distorted sounds but as much elegant, Joe Satriani, Steeve Vai, John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Vernon Reid (Living Colour). He deepened the study of his instruments, signin’ on the “Musician Professional Centre", where he approached to the study of jazz, in the same time he performed live with various bands, first of all “VINICIOUS” and “RED WINE”, in the clubs of the countries of Como and Milan. In 1997, with the goal to inprove his position, he attended a stage in the Valtur village in Nicotera Marina where he played in front of a large audience, and under the guide of some tutors, he got a better knowlege about performing. At the end of that experience he was contacted by a line up calld “ULTIMA STIRPE” with wich he tooks part, in 1998 at the festival EMERGENZA ROCK, and accessed to the Northen Italy semifinal at PALACONCERTI AQUATICA in Milan. In the same year, after he left this band, he recorded PAY ATTENTION his first CD, including two of his own instrumentals songs, wich got various radiofonic inclusions and good reviews by newspapers and local and national radio stations, it was followed an inclusions in some Ucrainan palinpsestes. In the same time he were required by LPS (Sound Projection Lab), a band composed by old friends, with this line up he signed up again, in 1999 at EMERGENZA, winning the regional final to B52 in Milano, and recuring to the Northen-Italy semifinal at PROPAGANDA ever in Milano. He remainedwith LPS till 2003, realysing the firstCD of the band “MEMORIE DAL SOTTOSUONO (Memories from undersound)”. Essential was in 1999, the friendship with MASSIMO GHIANDA, keyboard player, arranger and composer he too, with wich he founded the INFINITY, so began the four hands writing of songs included in theCD “THE VOICE OF THE LANDSCAPE” in wich Cataldo, beside to be a music composer, discovered himself as lyrics writer too, the project was realized in 2004, year of beginning of the promotion, this work obtained excellent reviews and inclusions in the programs of radio stations in various parts of Italy. Since 2001 to February 2005 he took part of “LA QUINTAUMENTATA”, line up wich proposed live, songs from Latin America, this project was the way to deepen language and style of this kind of music wich offered a huge variety of cues. In 2006 he took part to the contest BOLOGNA MUSIC FESTIVAL accessing to the national semifinals proposing his own material. He has conduct, since 1995 guitar teaching on his own . 2008 has seen the production of EVENTI CICLICI (Cycilcal Events), the second own CD. In 2009 Cataldo performed live with Angelo Ravasini, historycal Italian singer, wrote and recorded music for promotional video of Pixel Association - Florence, and publish music lessons on the web site arquen.net. In 2010 was producted the last record THE WAY OUT by the label Videoradio, in the same year, the new band, DOMENICO CATALDO RISING PROG, is ready for live concerts, and The Way Out wins the award "ART RECORD OF 2010" for the blog GOOD TIMES BAD TIMES. In 2011, a new collaboration begins, about realization of video guitar lessons for the web site ELECTRIC GUITAR LEARN. Since September, the new single track CATACLISMA is avalaible on I-Tunes Store. 


Domenico Cataldo nasce il 13 maggio del 1974 a Cercola (NA), si trasferisce prima a Roma e poi a Cantù (CO) all' età di 7 anni. Inizia da adolescente lo studio della chitarra, inizialmente viene ispirato da The Edge (U2), Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, analizzandone gli stili anche con l'aiuto di qualche lezione privata. In seguito approda allo studio di sonorità più distorte ma ugualmente raffinate, Joe Satriani, Steeve Vai, John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Vernon Reid (Living Colour). Approfondisce lo studio della chitarra iscrivendosi qualche anno dopo al CPM di Milano, dove si avvicina allo studio del Jazz, contemporaneamente si esibisce con svariati gruppi, primi tra tutti i VINICIOUS ed i RED WINE, nei locali della zona di Como e Milano. Nel 1997, con lo scopo di migliorare la sua posizione partecipa inizialmente ad uno stage nel villaggio Valtur di Nicotera Marina (CZ) dove grazie ad esibizioni davanti ad un pubblico più cospicuo e sotto la guida di formatori acquisisce maggiori conoscenze concernenti il performing. Rientrato da quest’esperienza viene contattato da una formazione milanese ULTIMA STIRPE con la quale partecipa nel 1998 al festival EMERGENZA ROCK, qualificandosi alla semifinale nord-Italia al PALACONCERTI AQUATICA di Milano, nello stesso anno, terminato il cammino con la band incide PAY ATTENTION disco solista che lo vede emergere con due brani propri strumentali, ottenendo recensioni favorevoli e passaggi radiofonici da testate ed emittenti locali e nazionali, ne segue anche un’inclusione nei palinsesti ucraini. Nel contempo viene contattato dagli LPS (LABORATORIO DI PROGETTAZIONE SONORA), amici di vecchia data, con questa formazione si iscrive nuovamente, nel 1999 ad EMERGENZA, vincendo la finale interprovinciale COMO-VARESE-BERGAMO, tenutasi al B52 a Milano, e ripresentandosi di diritto alla semifinale nord-Italia presso il PROPAGANDA sempre a Milano. con gli LPS resta fino al 2003 realizzando il primo CD del gruppo “MEMORIE DAL SOTTOSUONO”. Di fondamentale importanza nel 1999, l’incontro con MASSIMO GHIANDA, tastierista, arrangiatore e anch’egli compositore, col quale fonda gli INFINITY, inizia così la stesura a quattro mani dei brani che andranno a formare il CD “THE VOICE OF THE LANDSCAPE” nel quale Cataldo oltre ad essere un compositore di musiche si scopre anche autore di testi, il progetto vede l’uscita nel maggio 2004, anno nel quale inizia la promozione dello stesso, il lavoro ottiene eccellenti recensioni giornalistiche e passaggi in palinsesti radiofonici in varie parti d'Italia, alcuni brani vengono messi tuttora in onda. Dal 2001 fino a Febbraio 2005 ha fatto parte de LA QUINTAUMENTATA, formazione che ha proposto dal vivo brani dell’America Latina, grazie a questo progetto ha avuto modo di approfondire anche l’approccio al linguaggio e alle espressioni tipiche di quelle terre e di questo genere che offre una vastità enorme di spunti. Nel 2006 ha partecipato al contest BOLOGNA MUSIC FESTIVAL accedendo alle semifinali nazionali proponendo materiale proprio. Esercita inoltre, dal 1995 attività di insegnamento a titolo privato. Il 2008 vede l'uscita di EVENTI CICLICI, secondo disco solista, presentato dal vivo in varie occasioni. Nel 2009 avvengono un a serie di cololaborazioni tra cui, una performance dal vivo con Angelo Ravasini (Corvi - storica band anni '60), la composizione con consecutiva esecuzione delle musiche che fanno da sottofondo al filmato di presentazione della Ditta Pixel di Firenze, e la stesura di lezioni online di teoria musicale per il portale ilchitarrista.it. Nel 2010 esce "THE WAY OUT", ultimo disco solista edito dall'etichetta discografica Videoradio, ottenuendo un eccellente riscontro di critica, e conseguendo peraltro il premio "DISCO D'AUTORE DELL'ANNO", nel sito Good Times Bad Times. I brani degli ultimi due dischi vengono eseguiti dal vivo con la formazione "DOMENICO CATALDO RISING PROG" composta da sei elementi. E' in corso inoltre, una collaborazione a livello didattico col sito ELECTRIC GUITAR LEARN, tramite la produzione di video tutorials. Nel 2011 esce CATACLISMA, nuovo singolo. Col 2012, iniziano collaborazioni di vario titolo a partire dall'inserimento nella line up del progetto "REINVENTING OPERA" - I LITIGANTI, per la riproposizione in chiave moderna del Don Giovanni di Mozart; insieme ai "GREGARI IN FUGA" nasce un percorso live con la presentazione di un repertorio cantautorale Italiano e con CORRADO VELLA si esibisce in duo chitarra classica-chitarra elettrica. Dall'autunno dello stesso anno compone ed esegue dal vivo con la chitarra acustica, accompagnamenti musicali per la lettura delle poesie di DANILO PERICO, vincitore della menzione d'onore nel contest internazionale "L'AGENDA DEL POETA", nello stesso periodo è operativo il progetto didattico relativo a corsi di chitarra moderna presso l'UNIONE ITALIANA CIECHI di Como. Attualmente in itinere anche numerosi altri progetti solisti e di collaborazione.
