His journey began at a summer camp where he recorded his very first song. Drawing inspiration from the 2000s hip-hop scene, Lil17 a.k.a “Seventeen” finds himself heavily influenced by artists like Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Drake, and Rick Ross. However, his musical roots run deeper, reaching back to legends like Jay-Z, Big L, and Big Daddy Kane. These artists have not only guided his sound but ignited a passion for the genre. He also admires the courage of female artists who have paved the way, adding to his diverse musical influences.

What sets Lil17 apart is the legacy of music that flows through his veins. One of his oldest cousins wrote and produced iconic tracks, including "Poison" by Bell Biv DeVoe and "I Wanna Sex You Up" by Color Me Badd, as well as contributing to Michael Jackson's "Blue Gangsta" and "A Place With No Name." This familial legacy established a high bar that motivated him to carve his own path in music, free from the shadows of expectation.

I chose this name in honor of my grandmother, who passed away on January 16, 2017—my birthday. Her absence was a transformative moment for me, and the following day marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, with the number 17 symbolizing resilience and progress. It serves as a constant reminder that while we face loss and challenges, there's always a new day ahead. 

In my journey, 17 represents more than just a number; it embodies the spirit of moving forward. Life is fast-paced and often unpredictable, so I strive to focus on what lies ahead. I believe that every moment matters, and through my music, I want to encourage my listeners to embrace each day with dedication and purpose.
