New sample library fuses electroacoustic and designed sound effects
San Francisco, October 10th, 2013 - Twisted Tools has released METAMORPH, a vast collection of electroacoustic and designed sounds, developed by Italian sound artists BJM Mario Bajardi and Komplex (Iter-Research). METAMORPH takes heavily processed violins, pianos and acoustic instruments and morphs them into impacts, sci-fi atmospheres, user interface elements and beyond.
METAMORPH features over 2.1 gigabytes of 24bit/96khz audio, embedded with Soundminer ready metadata to easily facilitate the discovery of new sounds for your next music or game production. Also included in the package are sampler presets for most major formats. Native Instruments Reaktor owners may take advantage of the included MP16d sampler, which comes equipped with a custom Lemur Template by Antonio Blanca.

METAMORPH Richard Devine Trailer (Extended) Version

This weekend we went to Crystal Waters Florida and recorded various sounds of the marine life. We took a boat out to theses specific locations including Kings Point Bay, Shell Island, and Mouth of Rainbow River. Here we captured some bizarre sounds of Dolphins communicating, thousands of shrimp feeding, and the distant moan of the Hypostomus Plecostomus catfish. (Headphones highly recommended). These recordings where captured using the Aquarian Audio H2a-XLR hydrophones, and Sound Devices 702 Digital recorder. Original files recorded at 24-bit-96khz.

Galaxy Mesmer

Multi 6-channel field recording of a Jacobs ladder also known as the (high voltage traveling arc) which is a device for producing a continuous train of large electrical sparks that rise upwards. The spark gap is formed by two wires, approximately vertical in position but gradually diverging from each other towards the top in a narrow V Shape. When high voltage is applied to the gap, a spark forms across the bottom of the wires where they are nearest each other, rapidly changing to an electric arc. The sparks can burn through thin paper and plastic and start fires, and contact with the exposed high voltage conductors can be lethal. For this recording I used a Sound Devices 744T/Mixpre-D with the Neumann RSM-191A/S kit microphone recording at the base of the transformer channels 1/2, then two DPA 4060 lav microphones channels 3/4 placed at far left and right positions beside the wire rods to capture a nice wide stereo image between the electrical arcs. The third stereo signal was from the Zoom H6 placed at the source of the the electrical sparks near the bottom of the wire rods. All files recorded at 24-bit-96khz. Free Download

Recording of Tornado Sirens in the distance tonight in Atlanta GA. The sounds of the strong winds and rain can be heard moving through the trees creating for a eerie atmosphere.  

Short recording made with the Neumann RSM-191 A/S and Sound Devices 702 Digital Recorder at 24-bit 96khz. Recorded at Midnight April 27th 2011. 



Eerie Recording of Tornado Sirens.

Recording of the sounds from my recent echo-cardiogram, often referred to in the medical community as a cardiac ECHO or simply an ECHO, is a sonogram of the heart. These are actual sounds taken from my heart on Tuesday May 10th 2011. The recording was taken straight from the Echo machine. I tried to record the blood flow measurements for each heart valve. 

Note: The photo is actually my aortic valve taken during the procedure:)

Mechanical Morphs SFX Library Release: Alien Machines Example

Sound recordings from "Teufelsberg" (German for Devil's Mountain) Listening station Berlin Germany. Short excerpts from the high tower dome trying to capture the most amazing spatial reverb echos from this most unusual structure.Various impacts, glass breaks, wooden clanks recorded at 24-bit 96kz with a Zoom H4N. Note: that some distant birds and wind can be heard through some of the recordings. This was due to some of the small holes in the ceiling structure, allowing some slight outside bleed.

The Sound of Data Transmissions-Electromagnetic Fields

For the "Transform" trailer demo song I mixed a few of my favorite sounds from  Jean-Edouard Miclot sound effects library new from Twisted Tools and tried to create a short slow piece that really showcased the versatility of some these sounds within the context of a musical composition. I also included a few additional sound effects and percussion sounds from my personal library that are also included in the release.

Plonked Spectral - From RiSP EP - CD

Bat field recordings from a recent trip to the North GA mountains. This sound clip was captured using the Anabat SD2 - Bat Detector - high microphone. This device allows you to monitor the ultrasonic echolocation calls of bats for species identification and activity measurement. The particular species of bat in this recording are the Indiana Bat. The typical hearing range of this bat is between 20hz - 150Khz. They locate their prey by means of echolocation. They will produce a very, loud short sound and assess the echo when it bounces back. The type of insect and how big it is can be determined by the quality of the echo and time it takes for the echo to rebound. They also use two frequency types; constant frequency (CF) and frequency modulated (FM) calls that descend in pitch. Each type reveals different information for the bat. The CF is used to detect an object, and the FM is used to provide information regarding the nature of the object and its distance. The pulses of sound produced by the bat last only a few thousandths of a second with silences between the calls that give time to listen for the information coming back in the form of a echo. I was amazed at how complex some of these  echolocation patterns looked on a sonogram and was even more blown away by how they sounded. This file was outputted from the Anabat software application which takes the bat calls and converts them to wave files. The Anabat software application also converted the calls to a audible human hearing range (20hz-20khz) as most of the bats calls went up into the 150khz range.

Hydrophone Recording of Burning Embers Underwater

Multi-channel field recording of 12,000 Italian bees at Buckeye Creek Farm Cherokee GA.
The setup consisted of four wooden packages of bee's containing 3000 bees each stacked on top of each other creating a wall of swarming noise. 

 Captured with the Neumann RSM 191-A/S and DPA SMK 4060 omnidirectional miniature stereo microphones. Everything was recorded at 24-bit 96khz with the Sound Devices 744T and Mixpre-D. Free Download
