Dear Reader, 

It was a great pleasure, after presenting an early version of this song (which I had sung) to Christy Bluhm, to learn that she wanted to sing it. There was no hesitation on my part. I immediately muted every note I sang and gave it over to her. Christy sings beautifully on this song, and I cannot imagine the song in any form but with her gorgeous voice interpreting the melody. 

From there, we got Noel Barrett involved, and he laid down such a cool bass track. His fills throughout are masterful with tasteful touches. Rock-solid time—great ideas! That's Noel.

Next we asked John Mason, a brilliant technical guitarist, to join us, and he did exactly what the track called for—he played rhythm guitar. His tasty picking in the verses created a forward movement that urged the song along, and his strumming of the chords in the chorus acted as a canvas for Christy to paint a melody over. 

Several weeks ago, Sharon Egan, a talented vocalist from Northeast Pennsylvania added some lovely vocal lines in the bridge of the song, which Christy then harmonized over. 

Our last move was to get saxophonist Dan Friedman involved. Dan has played on several of my songs in the past and he always brings with him a unique approach that is soulful and tinged with a jazz sensibility. He knows what to play and for this song he sought out the spaces in such a beautiful way. 

Ultimately, we have a song in which a group of great musicians wove their parts to create a tapestry of sound that provides surprises along the way and moments that you are eager to return to on ensuing listens. 

This was a true collaboration. At no point was there direction from me, except to say, "Do what you do!" And they did!

Composition – The Eclectic Collective

This song began about half a year ago, as part of a three song set that Ken started with some really cool beats. Josh was first to the trough for here, laying in his fretless bass groove to complete the foundation and give it some tonal direction. Stephen came next and laid in the really trippy textural guitar that you hear throughout. JJ was next with his serious, no joke organ playing, which sets the mood for the whole thing. Last, but not least, Tez joined by adding some really cool accent guitar throughout.
  Of course, every great song needs a great producer, so we tapped Stephen to do the honors on this.
  We had originally made this and the other two song with the intention of having The Mysterious Decibel and his friend Modes About Me sing on them. However, life got in the way, so we sat on them. Finally, MD let us know that he wasn't able to complete the project with us, much to everyone's, including his, disappointment. However, MD did lay down a rough vocal demo for us, which Stephen very ably processed to sound almost like another instrument in there. So, we're releasing this song as a tribute to them both, with gratitude, especially to MD for all the great work he's put in with us. If you're not familiar with either of them, do yourself a favor and check them out.   This is an example of what it sounds like when the whole band composes a song together. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

What fascinates me is that immediate future is both created and anticipated in the process of musical improvisation. Incidentally, the ear is faster than the eye :-) ... as separate stimuli, the ear can perceive 2 events 3 milliseconds apart; for the eye the stimuli must be 20 to 30 milliseconds apart :-)
so 10 times more (according to my info source !!!) ....
