TeaTime

A recording/composition of rural soundscape and birds in Lithuania. Many Storks  spend their summers in my homeland. In the recording, you can hear fleeting Cranes and a Stork parent arriving and feeding her young. We have been watching them grow and take off to fly for the first time and now we are looking forward to seeing them learn to feed themselves!  Over this summer, we have learned that these Storks have rituals. Most often they arrive to feed their young at 22.00+- in the evening. The Stork parents greet each other in a particular way, snapping their beaks and raising their wings while turning. Conservation efforts that focus on the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity seem to hold the most promise for halting the decline of this and other stork species. Enjoy!

Cranes & Storks

This piece reflects my interest in environmental and social issues as well as field recordings and sonic journalism. The piece can be related to the works of Peter Cusack and ‘Sounds from Dangerous Places’ (2012) or Chris Watson projects such as ‘A Guide to Coastal Wildlife’ (2016).

This piece consists of field recordings of Barking gas and coal power plant and Wind turbines recorded in the area of London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. You will also hear an interview with an independent filmmaker Jo Seeds and the voices of other activists who work with independent groups as well as Greenpeace Greenwire groups to improve ecology standards in London boroughs.

At the end of the piece, an activist talks about the government failing to meet the goals in relation to improving conditions for renewable energy orientated business's to grow and establish; and lowering the margins  year after year suggesting ignorance and lack of effort to change business dynamics and take steps to improve prospects for better ecology. The speech and voice of the activist at the end of the piece transform into an unintelligible sound reflecting the current state of things, where the voices and points made by the activists are treated as unintelligible noise, which may fade away into oblivion as time passes.

The Voices Of Activists: Renewable Energy

This track composition was inspired by Dadaist pieces such as ‘Karawane’, a poem consisting of nonsensical words and general aesthetic of irrationality, as well as uninhibited expressive potential.  ‘The true language is incomprehensible like the chatter of a beggar’s teeth’ (Artaud, 1988). We can go beyond speech into the realm of sounds and subjective interpretations of Artauds footprint, left in a shape of his surrealist fragmented poem; a silhouette of his former multi-faceted self.
