Afternoon @ Waha Festival 2024

From the vaults of the Beyond Within. Living by the Norwegian west coast, pushing through neverending North Atlantic winter storms, combined with deep personal struggles, I found, like always, solace in music. 

This mix was uploaded on a separate Soundcloud-account where I put up experiments apart from my "Psy"-persona. It was quite an inactive account, so when I one day noticed that the mix had been listened to 10.000+ times my jaw dropped. Lots of comments in Spanish, so I suspect that the tag "Cumbia" had gotten some random Latinos interested, and once the snowball started rolling........

So yes, there are some Peruvian "Chicha"-classics there, along with other psychedelic variations of Jazz, Blues and Rock. And yes, the silver flute in the end is a young Raja Ram.

Anthropos Logos - @ Human Evolution Festival 2016

As weird as it sounds - I was raised to the sound of the early 90's Ambient Techno scene. Although I was still being breastfed when "Little Fluffy Clouds" hit the charts, the analogue warmth, acid bleeps, gentle pulse and curious yet deep psychedelia of the golden years 1990 to 1994 always felt so strangely familiar.

So how and when did I fall in to this rabbit hole? 2002, 14 years old, buying any record I could get ahold of with "entrancing" music. Hearing more made me crave for more, which made me hear more that got me craving for more. Napster. Kazaa. DC++. Discogs... 
Contemporary trance music felt stiff, uninspired and cheesy, while that 90's Eye Q, Harthouse, Platipus, Superstition and all this Goatrance took me so deep. Especially those who dared to bring the tempo down. So hypnotizing. So challenging. So rewarding... Levitation music....

The last months I've sold off big parts of my record collection, and while digitizing the music I've sold I've re-discovered many of these diamonds. This is truly sacred music for me, music that has been with me for so many travels the last 10-15 years. So I invite you to sit down on your magic carpet and explore space from a time long forgotten.

Excerpt from a 2,5 hour set recorded on a hot, sunny afternoon at Andra Vaerlden Gathering 2017 in Värmland, Sweden. The usual night time madness gave space to my take on playful daytime psychedelia. No Recordbox, no Tractor, no Sync-buttons - just good old CDs with mind-bending/heart-warming psychedelic dance music, beyond genres, trends and dogmas, selected and harvested since forever.

DJ-set @ Forest Star 2018

Musik skall byggas utav glädje!

Recorded around christmas 2018 as a nod, ode and shoutout to one of my long time selector heroes Mixmaster Morris. I first became familiar with him in high school ca 2004-05, hearing his early 90's classics as Dreamfish and The Irresistible Force. But it wasn't until around 2012, when my own DJ-adventure was already living it's own life, where I started to notice his true brilliance: behind the decks. As a hobby music historian/anthropologist I loved digging into his older and newer mixes (easily found online), exploring his vast library of music and learning that it can be completely OK to hear a Minnie Riperton ballad next to Plaid next to an old, dusty house track next to an Adrian Sherwood dub beast. Don't think in terms of genres, think in flow, think in the tidal waves that make up the human spirit. Spontaneity. Joy, sadness, depth, memories, experimentality, playfulness, and back to joy again. Always come back to joy. Perhaps this isn't the words Morris would use himself, but this is my understanding of his wordless teaching. It has been a revelation to me, and something I've been trying to adapt to my own art ever since. And for that I'm forever grateful.

In the summer of 2018 I joined my friend and DJ colleague Anders Navigare to Ozora Festival. Quite accidentally the two of us received a drop of pure and very potent acid in the moment Mixmaster Morris started playing at the Dome stage. Let me tell you it was quite possibly the most powerful musical experience in my life. I thought I knew the music world of Mixmaster Morris, but I guess you can't really say that until you've been tripping under his command. Outside the Dome an enormously violent thunderstorm was causing havoc over the festival, but inside we had the most loving and blissful music experience, grooving to D'Angelo, DJ Koze, Kamaal Williams, Flying Lotus, The Orb/Sun Electric and gosh, did my heart melt to the sounds of "hey teachers, leave those kids alone!!!"? I kid you not, I bursted into tears twice over these 4 hours! Forever imprinted into my DNA.

I bow my head and wish to express my deepest gratitude and respect for you Mixmaster Morris, if you ever read this. Thanks for all the inspiration throughout the years.

Saturn Return 2020

One of my greatest memories of last summer was closing the main stage at Andra Halvan in Norway on an insanely hot Sunday afternoon in July. The organizers gave me the blessing to do it my way, resulting in a 5 hour session that still gives me the chills just thinking about it. Many people asked me then and afterwards about the music, but for some stupid reason I forgot to record the set.

Fast forward to last week, when I found one of the USB-sticks used at the gig, still with a music library named "Andra Halvan 2019". Since there's little to no DJ-activity for me in these strange times I decided to record something out of that vibe. Impossible to re-create the golden moments of last summer, but hopefully enjoyable for your private headphone/hi-fi pleasure of summers to come. Please play loud!
