Soul Brother

First performed in J. Naujalis music gymnasium in 1999, for choir contest. The
composition was edited in 2007 in common with composer and choir “Jauna
muzika“ conductor Vaclovas Augustinas. Missa parts are not finished, Credo is
still missing.
The name subtille expresses an idea that the music is very subtle, melodically,
rhythmically and harmonically minimalistic, especially untraditional in
harmony flowing. It is traditional and untraditional at the same time, especially
in harmony and form. Maybe it is not very modern music, but it is nice, original
– that is what our listener prefers. One of my colleagues said once in form of a
joke: „That’s new simplicity“, trying to find
new style, at the same time it is an opposition
to „new complexity“.
In my opinion, music must positively act
human’s psychology; music must be not
sharp, not too complicated, and not too
abstract. There are too many such things in contemporary music. Music must be „gentle to the ear“.
