old rave stuff

Mixed from vinyl only, just 2 decks, mixer and a box of very early US and Euro techno rarities from 1989 and 1990.
Volume one in this series of mixes covering the best and most underground tracks from the 1989-1990 period of the rave scene , post acid house and pre-jungle when the tempo was slow but the tracks sounded heavy with throbbing basslines, lots of electronic synthesizers and slamming beats.

Possibly THE mix that inspired me to start dj'ing...Studied via my Walkman, on long nights and early mornings, wandering around Peterlee in 1991. Rough and ready, with plenty of scratching (which no one in the North East was doing on techno and rave). Quality programming and mixing from Yoz..This is where the long journey and love affair began!.

Before Spectrum or Future there was the The Project Club, first in Ibiza and then in Streatham, South London. This was the club that Trevor Fung got going on his return from Ibiza. This mix is a selection of trax circa 1988 and recorded as a tribute to the club.

K'Alexi Shelby - We All Jack Part 1 (HEATTRAXX01)

Paying tribute to clubs like Quadrant Park, Venus, Shellys, and of course The Hacienda, this mix is a selection of dance floor bombs from roughly 1990 - 92. This was a time before DJ's stuck to playing one genre of music throughout a set, instead often fusing together house, techno, rave and breaks all in the same 60 minutes.

This golden era of electronic music also coincides with my very first 12" dance record purchased in 1990, Moby: Go.

Recorded live in booth on to tape (Maxwell 90 I believe!!) and then converted to MP3 recently, so sound quality is poor but a fun journey back to the past.
