Lovin this mix, great underground vibe. I definitely enjoy the lesser known records from that era. Don’t get me wrong the classics are great but nowadays it’s a big switch off for me when listening to an old skool set. Thanks for uploading. Ben.

Rickmansworth, England 1989...last party of the summer for some of us. 

Trying to recreate the vibes from these large scale outdoor parties, so not always the most commercial tracks on display. The underground tracks that fired the spirit of the groove very much a theme at these parties and captured in this mix.

Blast Off 1989

So after playing the Soak/Hacienda main event at Church from 1.30am-3.30am, there was a cheeky after party being thrown at HiFi Club in Leeds from 3.30am-7.00am. Myself and my hombre Marshall were given the task of hosting the party from 4.30am-7.00am. This is my set from around 5.30am-7.00am. There's a few dodgy mixes but if anyone had seen the state I was in, I think you would forgive me!! Hope you enjoy as much as I did playing these tunes at the time!! Big love Muzza x

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning.
