ABOUT | Thomas Cassell returns to mark his second solo label release—following-up April's successful Mountain Fever debut, "Traveling Shoes"—with a Mark Knopfler cover, "Redbud Tree." A slightly haunting, yet beautifully poetic song, Cassell—backed by a supporting cast anchored by vocalist/GRAMMY-nominee Dale Ann Bradley—put his signature acoustic spin on this now decade's old, former Dire Straits frontman's original. The addition of mando, dobro and fiddle, here, is a fitting and welcomed homage.

SHORT BIO | Originally from the sacred bluegrass mountains of southwestern Virginia, Thomas Cassell is among the highest rank of modern bluegrass musicians. Cassell is a founding member of respected progressive group Circus No. 9, and has performed with Billy Strings, the Bryan Sutton Band, Jim Lauderdale, Missy Raines, Becky Buller, and countless others. Now a resident of Nashville, TN, he is cultivating new and original music—not ignorant of the great traditions that preceded him. In 2021 Cassell was named the National Mandolin Champion. He was also named the 2020 Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association, 2021 FreshGrass Mandolin Champion, and 2016 Rockygrass Mandolin Champion.

PSALMS – VOL. II: REFUGE IN THE STORM – The Shaken Remnant

Synopsis:
Volume II walks through Psalms 16–30 as a storm-and-shelter journey. These songs move from trusting God as portion and path, to crying out under pursuit, to the violent rescue of Psalm 18 where God comes down in the storm. Creation sings in Psalm 19, battle prayers rise in Psalm 20, and royal joy and pain converge in Psalms 21–22. From the quiet comfort of “The Lord is my shepherd” through lifted gates, tested hearts, thunder on the waters, and joy after mourning, this volume lives in the tension between danger and the refuge of a God who answers. The lyrics paraphrase the psalms closely, but each track is shaped as a modern, singable song.
