In Spring 2015, police brutality, racial profiling, and community tensions with authorities are once again at the forefront of the American social conversation. Rapper Donny Bravo has released a timely and thought provoking record, entitled “Police Man” that addresses all of these issues from a very interesting perspective. “Police Man” offers up a very relaxed, catchy, and melodic canvas for Bravo to tell us his story (and presumably the story of many others in his shoes). “I’ve always been socially conscious” says the 25 year old rapper and Howard University graduate, “I wrote this song from the perspective of being a young black male and constantly living out the very real dynamic that often ends up in shootings, wrongful arrest, and many more negative outcomes.”
