Nifflas Type Beat (2017)

I have like a dozen tracks similar to this but the soundfont program I used (One-SF2) was terrible, and I couldn't be arsed to go back and fix all the stuff and render out everything cuz they are all in different patterns on the same template. Its really such a pain in the ass; glad that I had rendered this one at least. It used to corrupt the files so I was forced to delete the vst :( I need to go and reselect each instrument and replace it with Fruty SF Player or something, to get it to work...

[C700] "Goodgod" Untitled Chiptune Track (2016)

This track was composed with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark samples, an 808, and Emu Proteus 2 (which is what Kirkhope used on those soundtracks!)

This is going to be the only trap track, its just because everyone makes that comparison with the pause screen on Goldeneye sounding like a prototype of trap music.

Project Alarm - Paws Theme

I tried to do the Mission Impossible music theory thing with the main motif; its supposed to be "CAT!" in morse-code (dots are the eighth notes, dashes are the quarter notes? I think?), but its a bit off, otherwise I am just playing with that motif right now, and you can hear this motif in the other tracks if you listen hard, I may clean up the motif in the future to make the morse code thing be more noticable.

this will be redone later and with more fleshed out melodies, Emu Proteus samples and better horns (they sound quite shite here tbh, I need to add more pitch bends to them)

I'll upload the actual midi sounding version later, this is it rendered using the SGM soundfont.

[Project Alarm - Beta] Egypt Scene 1 (MIDI version, SGM Soundfont)

I started this with the idea that I could do a dynamic music track for when you go into the elevator itself, but I think that it would be too hard to do so I may not go with that idea yet until I know how to code on Unity...here is some of the ideas for that.

I'm mixing in a lot of easy-listening stuff from around the 60s with this track, you can hear the same melody and percussion from Misirlou in this, as a homage :) I don't do that often so its fun for me to actually reference already-done music in my stuff from time to time!

I was thinking of Sonic Rush and Ollie King's OSTs, other big beat albums, and of course wanted to put my spin on things, a little brit-poppy, and a little edgy hahaha. Enjoy! Project Alarm - Hack It!

DISCLAIMER:

I just want to say that I am using some of these samples, like the Eisenhower samples, in a retrospective and non-political way. 

I do not "support" what is being said, I am simply showing it in a retrospective fashion. What I mean by that is that, these were some of the things that were being said on the airwaves back so many years ago, these are issues (like the Cold War) which was very important to the entire world because they were worried about an all-out nuclear war. That is all this track is about: the fear that the U.S. had, not my own fears/prejudices as a person.

But still, I may change this track in the future. I want to be able to be making something that isn't controversial at all so I don't mean to be.

This one is inspired by Rascal & Klone, London Elektricity and other dnb artists of that ilk, using jazzy samples, an upright bass, and some other crazy stuff like an amped sax! 4-bar-blues motifs! Wish this style would return to Drum & Bass! Anyone with me?!

Project Alarm - Bombading's Crazy Party!!!

I live around the rural parts of Washington, and every year around this time it gets very foggy and Twin Peaks-y out here, and of course I start turning on some Portishead, UNKLE, and other stuff like that.

But I was also thinking that there may be another playable character in my game. The one to take dangerous missions at night, with music to fit his missions...it can only be a black cat. Stay tuned for meow-re info on that.

Many of the samples come from a series that is now lost media, "The Ratcatchers". I retooled part of the theme by slowing it heavily and repitching, and the vocal sample in the middle is actually taken from one of the only episodes that has been uncovered, Episode 3 of 58 or so? The first two episodes have been found, but are not publicly available. There are other "pure" violin sounds in this as well from some old soundfonts lol.

The main vibraphone is from a Herb Alpert song.

Then I added an amped violin that happens to have a slinky attached to it (This was found on Pianobook.co.uk) and it gave such a good guitar sound. The intro wailing was done with an amped vibraphone with an Ebow on it, there again, free samples found online.

This is my Christmas present for you guys, but I really started this one around November, it just needed more touches to be complete...

Project Alarm - Rendezvous At Midnight

I sampled pieces of Steamboat Willie and turned it into a crazy song!

The only thing not from Steamboat Willie was the drums, also I added some FX and EQ to certain stuff to make it sound rougher but yeah. Willies!

This one was just made for fun so I might make some changes and extend it on the album release, as a bonus track. Its a bit short.

Breakboat Willie (Steamboat Willie Remix)

This one is inspired heavily by the whole space-age movement and UFO fascination back in the 50s-late 60s (and a little bit longer of course; Star Wars was inspired by that sort of stuff). And, of course, inspired by all the alien and UFO sightings going on right now...

But also breakbeats! Because a lot of the space-age stuff had a resurgence in the late 90s which is where I'm getting a lot of the inspiration from. I sped up the drums another space-age pop record that was more on the psychedelic side, naturally isolated by just me taking the left channel and muting the right and then moving the left to the center.

Oh yeah the alien voices themselves come from a really crazy old 60s record called "Found On The Elevator". It is one of the earliest known records that's just completely devoid of any credits for the artist, and its an insane story about a time traveler going crazy, I think? Its that trippy, maaan. So I pitched him up and added lots of FX. The intro is from The Clangers which is the cutest fuckin show ever btw pls watch it.

Project Alarm - Space-Age Bops / UFO Crash

Yes, this is that guy from the Persona 3 anime and other things, from the Masterbits Rapsody sample pack! I love his kinda classic hip hop flow that is almost like Deltron. Say what you want about his rhymes but they are funny as hell as well, and it benefits the sound I'm trying to make. Mostly as well I was trying to work on my mixing, and I would say there is a bit of a high cut on this one too much that I might need to edit the EQ of but its sounding bassier, that's what I wanted.

This will probably be the only one with real "lyrics" though, although of course it is all samples I will try to keep it a bit down on that, for sure more of my coming stuff will have a bit more of a Avalanches or even Plus Tech Squeeze Box feeling where vocals aren't the real focus so yeah! Enjoy.

Project Alarm - A New Mission ~ Stage Select

This is kind of my tribute to the very addictive but short-lived "sambass" phase around the very early 2000s, but also a bit of the Japanese influenced side of things like some of what Cornelius did with Pizzicato 5. I have been loving that type of stuff going on RYM and going through the tags to find something interesting to me, because of how much I love these little microgenres. I have also been into bossa nova and samba for a long time so it flowed pretty easily. 

This may be the most "composed" sambass track ever made, next to some of the greats of course like Kaleidoscópio and Marcelinho da Lua. I wanted to respect that culture of music and not just mercilessly loop samples without changing things up or adding my own story to it.

I don't know what the fuck this is but I worked too hard on this to not post it lmao. 

Count this as another remix like my Steamboat Willie track.

CARTOON RIDDIM (Cartoon Network Samplecore)

This one is another "nocturnal beat", but this time inspired by the old crime jazz/big band periods. I think that is important to capture with this project as well is that era because it was the type of thing used so often in cartoons a long time ago! I wanted to capture that scheme-y feeling.

The big samples in this come from Enoch Light, Edwin Starr and The Oscar Volk Orchestra. The intro part  is like the battle and then the later parts is like the escape from the tower!

(I counted the breakbeat in the first part in 7/8 because the sample just couldn't be cut any other way for the 1 to land on the first beat, but it feels more like a shaky 4/4, I am not to good with listening to that time sig but I think its 7/8 but it may be 7/4? I dunno but it worked out with my cuts/melodies. 

I did not chop/loop the original Edwin Starr drum sample myself, I found it on a website that has breakbeats in wav format. I think they did it intentionally because he even shouts out the numbers lol! Really cool detail.)
