Behold! My entry for the Emissions Festival 2018 Mix Contest. Emissions is a festival celebrating the music, art, community, and freedom of enjoyment and creation surrounding West Coast Bass Culture.  Over the past decade the iconic sound of this movement has expanded from underground California roots and become a truly worldwide phenomenon. My mix reflects this global expansion with sounds from all around. Most tracks have been released in the past year or so but I’ve included a few timeless legends in the spirit of the 10-year anniversary of the festival. I’m eternally grateful to the musicians/artists/producers whose life’s work is creating these sounds that I have the honor and privilege to spin together into a mix that expresses my creative feels as inspired by Emissions.

donshuggin ✪ Emissions Festival 2018

What is trap music in 2019 anyway? Broadly speaking, it's 70-85 bpm hip-hop style instrumentals but with a whole lot of extra bass and low end production added in. So a bit of your classic dubstep wobbles but also plenty of really interesting sound design going on. Sounds good loud. In my opinion, a good trap set always blurs genres, not limiting itself to any specific tempo or styling for too long. Take this mix, for example. What starts out as innocuous enough club-friendly dance vibes quickly moves into a heavy soundscape laden with trademark "trap horns" followed by high energy house (via Yvng Jalapeño's edit of Fisher's "Losing It" and a fun duo of uptempo Cardi B remixes) and ends up back in modern hip hop, eventually cooling off with some lo-fi style rap beats. V proud of this mix and hope it's demonstrative enough to compel any curious local listeners out there in the UK bass music scene to join us for one of our Trap Music London parties!
