Dontáe Jareel Pelzer was born in Mount Vernon, NY, and raised in the Queen City; Poughkeepsie. A hour North of New York City, in the suburban outskirts of the Hudson Valley, his passion for music was initially sparked in the early 2000s, and has never left him since.  

His musical journey is one that has taken many shapes and sounds thus far. Flexing his vocal muscles in many different ways during his teens, he quickly learned that he loved all spectrums of music. Dontáe would start to put his thoughts onto paper after his path crossed with his best friend, an algorithmic lyricist-turned-close collaborator, Calvin “Cal” McCants.

As its latest incarnation, Dontáe is at the top of his creative expression. "We all have highs and lows, we all have our trials and tribulations. As long as I am making music and giving it my all – I am in my peak."

Sonically, Dontáe’s Peak merges Paramore's sugary rock melodies, with the clairvoyant mind of a deep lyricists such as J. Cole and Andre 3000, to create a unique sonic fingerprint that refuses to be hemmed down by the confines of musical genres.

On his deeply conceptual project – ‘BLKLITE’ – Dontáe’s storytelling encourages you to take a deep dive into the hidden parts of one’s self.

'BKLITE' is a comprehensive study of the taunting and constant duality in one's mind, striking a perfect balance between self-imposed limitations, and reality. Drawing inspiration from real life experiences, Dontaé's delves into his mental health, internalized trauma, idiosyncratic sadness, and expressions of angst, associated with the passage to adulthood.

The project's otherworldly, foreboding cinematic feel, is the creation of genre-fluid producer, David Sisko, and up-and-comer German producer, DanielOnTheTrack.  

"Life experiences, good or bad, always make good music" - the artist comments on ‘BKLITE’. In this ambitious 10-track project, Dontáe’s Peak is vulnerable, yet thought-provoking observations smash ALL walls down. Musically, lyrically, and emotionally. Nothing is off limits. Nothing escapes the black light.
