When i 1st started full/time lead singing as the DRUMMER in my Pop's 5-piece combo in 1972. We were performing 6 nights @ the Holiday Inn, Milford, Ct. I never really took singing lead seriously but when the the then keyboardist "Toni the Mad-hatter" went into space exploration the group turned to me to take over. It was either that or we'd lose the entire gig & I'd have to get a day job. So we all learned the current Top-40 & this song was something special to me. If performed right-it was a HAPPY SONG that always seemed to get the people, AND the band in a good mood. I could have added more tracks w/ more instruments to this mix yet, chose to "K.I.S.S." as in 'keep-it-simple-stupid."   I've loved "I Believe in Music" to this day & hope I did Mr. Davis justise to him & his creation.

FYI: the GREAT showman & composer, Erroll Garner, is the very voice you hear...introducing me. I was honored to have Mr. Garner on my Boston radio show. At 57 years young, he left us all too early.  Mr Garner may be gone yet he lives thru his music.

He composed it instrumental on the traditional 32-bar format and 
recorded it for the album Contrasts (1955).Aug 9, 2018.                 
Mr. Garner also composed some 300 other compositions including 
"Watermelon Man."  He NEVER learned to read music !  Truly God-gifted in my opinion.  I was honored to have interviewed this 
musical-genius on my Boston radio show. Even more so when I got to sit in, on drums, while Mr. Garner played a set 1 nite @ Palls Mall-the Inner Circle Steakhouse Boston, Ma.

Since Karen is my  'Surfer Girl'  I wanted to share this summer song recently found & remixed from off the shelf recordings I made. I hope you enjoy the HARMONIES as i did making them. If you listen closely you'll hear a certain "electric guitar" I personally dubbed in along w/my keys. ENJOY & Have a Blessed week-I mean it. V.I.P. Note: "I WRITE THE SONGS." was composed by BRUCE JOHNSTON  Keyboards/bass/vocalist/arranger/ composer  who took over for Brian Wilson in early '68.  We 1st met Thanksgiving Eve, 1968, on the stage of the Tremont Theater about 4 hours BEFORE the concert when only a piano was on stage. In fact I did NOT know who he was except for some guy  warming the piano. I walked  up to Bruce onstage, we chatted & he proceeded to play for me his fancy chord intro to "Bluebirds Over the Mountain " from the LP  "20/20" which he produced. But wait, ,here's the kicker: b-4 he demo'd that song-we played chopsticks together, shared a few laughs then we introduced ourselves to one another. Hi (said I) am Don Taylor and I do an Oldies Show Sat. nights on WECB here in BOSTON. He said "that's cool I'm Bruce Johnston bass player of the Beach Boys" in as nonchalant & friendly a tone as your new found friend on your college campus.  I had to work very hard to control my embarrassment & excitement so as not to look like a jerk. Here was a member of THE group I idolized & drummed to  since '63 & i didn't know who he was was ??  Well, he laughed & said that's ok because he had recently joined the band on the road. He told me that he was a graduate of the U.C.L.A.  School of Music then asked if I'd like to hear his intro ect. After about a 1/2 hour we parted ways & he said see ya tonight...right ?  I've NEVER forgotten how Bruce never treated me like some simple fan he met  while passing thru. In fact,  years later Bruce autographed my sheet music of  I write the Songs which I have framed in my studio.   Then, in 1987, shortly after moving to So. Fl.  Karen, Todd & me drove down to the Orange Bowl to attend the Florida Lottery kickoff Concert starring the BEACH BOYS & the Beastie Boys (who recorded arap version of "WipeOut" along w/ the Boys.  I couldn't miss that & so i brought my camcorder & Karen & me got backstage (where else) & I videod a Bruce saying Hello, and a little more. A short time later the group released "KOKOMO" which they debuted that night.  Another great reason to have moved to So. Florida when we did.  Every time, I've performed "___the Songs"  I've always given Bruce Johnston the credit he deserves, yet never seems to get. It's always that Barry..what's his name ?? LoL     I just had to share these stories w/you b-4 I forget them.  Maybe I'll add this segment to "My Book."  :)
