Tracks that treat the listener towards the end is something I've always enjoyed doing....takes a certain kind of listener to go looking for it.

With more of an emotional focus than symbolic this time, it's clear this one is from Bone's heart. Detroit Is ... Soul, ducks and weaves in the grey area between house and techno; the initial percussion that is brushed over the kick giving more of a house swing than a techno groove. The on/off, cut-and-dry synth chords contrast with the looser fluidity in Here To Stay (Won't Fade Away), and gives a real sense of intent and desire. The real focal point however is the profound vocal that comes swirling over the top, "Detroit is what I love, Detroit is what I need, Detroit is where I'm from, Detroit's the air I breathe?" No explanation necessary

Titled ‘Transmission 96′ the new album features ten tracks which has us reminiscing on late night escapades and the dark lofty warehouses of our youth.

Two pioneers of the UK underground, Liftin’ Spirits has been at the forefront of jungle and drum n bass since the early 90’s with Dj Persuasion having earned his credentials as one of the most definitive dj’s in the scene from around the same time all the way up to the present.

There is a splendid air of nostalgia about this release – it sounds exactly as it should, channeling elements of the past alongside modern influences in a way which feels true to the rawness and rugged sensibilities of the genre.

This track is the lead single from the release – a dreamy affair with all the euphoric notes hitting in the right places. All underpinned by quintessential breaks and sounds which might have been lifted straight from an airfield or barn in the 90’s.

PREMIERE: Liftin Spirits & DJ Persuasion - Without Me [Liftin' Spirit Records]

Liftin Spirit Records was the original sister label to Andy C’s renowned and award-winning RamRecords, both based in the same studio in Hornchurch, Essex, UK owned by Ant Miles since 1994.

‘Transmission 96’ is a collaborative LP between one of the pioneers of Jungle and Drum and Bass, Liftin’ Spirits (aka Ant Miles), and DJ Persuasion, a longtime fan of the genre, who grew up listening to Miles' groundbreaking productions. As the title suggests, the LP takes its inspiration from the second wave of Jungle Drum and Bass in the mid 1990s, an era when breakbeats, hardcore stabs and soulful melodies dominated the dancefloor.

The two became friends after meeting in 2017. Around 2020 during the Covid lockdown, the pair decided to collaborate, exchanging ideas, and over time 'Transmission 96’ began to take shape as an LP.

Across ten tracks, the duo bring their love of all styles of Jungle Drum and Bass to the table, crafting an album for listeners, dancers and fans of the genre alike. Tracks like ‘Control (Moving On)’ and ‘Without Me’ carry a soulful, introspective energy, while at the harder end of the spectrum, ‘Tuffness Direct’ and ’Insomniac’ are guaranteed to smash up dancefloors that champion the era. ‘We R A.i.’,morphs emotion-laden liquid vibes with artificial Intelligence piano.

‘Transmission 96’ reflects on a magical era of Jungle Drum and Bass, which is recognised as one of the most influential genres in the history of dance music.

Cut Copy - Airborne

We Are The Brave front man Alan Fitzpatrick provides the labels next release with a typically incendiary two-tracker. Delving deep into his record collection for inspiration, the result is a brace of distinct, ear-catching cuts that tip a hat to by-gone times in rave culture and have returned big reactions from contemporary crowds all summer. 

The aptly titled “They All Called ‘Em Garys” combines droning hardcore hoovers and power piano with Fitzpatrick’s trademark heavy tech funk. While “Rhino” adopts a slung-back groove of resounding bass and tense pads overlaid with a knockout melody that bubbles away before unleashing its full chord progression through an unashamedly epic breakdown.
