Emerging revitalised from a period of hibernation, BEAM warmly invites Peter Rocket for the label’s fourth release. On the A-side, ‘Esai’ diffuses fractal textures through UK swagger, a glitched-out exercise in rhythmic psy-ncopation. ‘Yvene’ strips things back to crisp, plastik minimalism, building toward subtle peaks of expansive melancholia. ‘Hive Six’ channels trance motifs, rounding off the EP with glimmers of euphoric effervescence.

Her eyes said more than her words ever could. Though she thought she kept her cards close to her chest and her secrets safely guarded, her eyes were always the giveaway. However subtle or passing a look might be, she couldn’t mask the deep emotions that were clouding her mind, the fog only became more and more visible. The book was firmly open and her pages were there to be read.

Last year saw the release of Ocular Soda, a debut LP from Kame House co-founder Infuso Giallo, which also marked the first ever tape release from the German imprint. This has now evolved into a live show, which sees him mixing audio and visual for a complete sensory experience. It doesn’t stop there though, as another accompaniment the label have rounded up friends and family to contribute their own remixes of the LP. Covering breakbeat, acid, downtempo and more, the reworks come from the likes of Anatolian Weapons, Globus and our pick from producer, percussionist and Salon Des Amateur affiliate Niklas Wandt.

A dynamic configuration of rhythms plus melodies, overlaid with musings on repetitive neverlands: R.i.O. welcomes KXB, aka Sam Gill and Wes Holland, a duo that, as they put it, “was born and baptised on the balcony at Robert Johnson in 2019, while Wes lived in London and Sam in Melbourne.” “Areas of Uncertainty” is their first musical outcome. It carries a rhythmic show bag, that circumnavigates streamlined track architecture. From Can-ish live drumming submitted by guest rhythmist Graeme Pogson to sequenced synth spheres, the three multilayered groove landscapes of the Australian duo punch severely arcane. Sometimes techno frankness messes with the big bad dub universe. Or Hacienda- Breakbeats cut tellingly through looped vocal waters, sanctified sung in by “Thrush”, one third of the Melbourne based Aussie/Deutsch swamp beat trio Concentration. Additionally, their buddy Richard Fearless added a remix for the premiere, fishing in dark dub zones, bringing in anxious cosmic tones. All recorded in a deeper shade of space somewhere in Melbourne, Berlin, and Fearless’ Metal Box studio in London, while diving into an avalanche of infinitely hyperlinked cadences.
