Pumping out multi-sensory DJ tools for breakfast, Itoh champions a sound highly dynamic yet infused with the kind of minute textural work and layers of modular complexity one can not but marvel at. Punching in with a wild two hours of electro-magnetic hardware funk and entrancingly immersive brainwaves, the Sendai-based wizard elevates us to a whole new world where hi-tech submersion and atmospheric club music reign supreme. Scott Ferguson delved into the House & Techno scene in Detroit, Michigan in 1994, transitioning into DJing and exploring various vinyl records encompassing Detroit & Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Disco, & Funk. In 1998, he embraced the Ensoniq ASR-10, integral to his sample-heavy, filtered sound. Ferguson's debut 12" surfaced in 2001 under his own label, alongside releases on 'Mahogani Music' and 'Psychostatia Recordings'. In 2012, he initiated two new projects: the minimalist 'Black Boxx' utilizing three black hardware boxes, and JBSF with Jitterbug. His productions have garnered acclaim from iconic DJs such as Derrick May, Larry Heard, and Moodymann. Presently, Ferrispark Records continues to produce and distribute vinyl, while Ferguson continues his global DJ ventures.

In this take over by the label TECNOLOGÍAS ELEMENTALES (Buenos Aires / Berlin), they present a selection of Djs and live acts to introduce their second album.  This encounter took place on a very special day: April 2nd in Argentina commemorates the victims of the Malvinas War, a bloody confrontation between the neoliberal government of Margaret Thatcher and the murderous Argentine dictatorship over British-occupied territory. 
Kiernan Laveaux is a connective rhythmic energy conduit & ecstatic beat conductor from the Great Lakes. A boundless ball of discordant energy, she’s best known for her arcane technical skill, propulsive dancefloor catharsis, & hyper-creative approach behind the decks. The music included here is all-embracing & expansive, but unified by a restless sense of ecstatic momentum, dissonant euphoria, & kinetic exuberance. This channels binary dissolving phenomena throughout our known universe via unbridled musical vitality.

There is nothing ordinary about Sepehr (@sepehr-a): he hails from the Bay Area of San Fran, is based in New York City but has Iranian heritage and takes great pleasure in pulling apart everything you think you know about dance music. His maverick approach results in versatile and genre-defiant sounds that collide EBM, drum & bass, techno, electro, acid and plenty more on some of the finest labels out there. He runs his own Shaytoon Records which is focussed on the Middle Eastern underground, and in May lands on our own Dekmanel Records with Genesis Domain, a varied EP full of intriguing sounds.

The same could be said of his mix for us this week. It's a deep dive into his eclectic and eccentric musical mind that spans several sounds and scenes. Although united by body-moving rhythms, there is everything from club to techno to broken beat and plenty more besides. Each track is packed with detail and surrealist sounds that will keep your head as busy as your heels.

Dekmantel Podcast 463 - Sepehr

Efdemin has all but perfected his deep, expertly reduced take on house and techno. The German artist has mastered his form over the course of numerous 12”s on various labels, including three albums on Dial Records. They are intricate, mind bending affairs that take you in on yourself and constantly explore new ground. His hybrid mix CD on his own Naïf imprint and Curle last year was another career high point, and recently he has turned himself towards experimental and microtonal composition with yet more fascinating results. February 2019 will see Ostgut Ton release New Atlantis, his latest album and one inspired by Francis Bacon’s unfinished 17th century novel of the same name. Promising to fuse his left-of-centre take on dance music with a new found passion for experimental sound art, it’s the latest chapter in a fascinating artistic story. 

His podcast for us is a decidedly club-focussed mix, featuring the sort of warped synths and underlapping grooves you would expect of the man. There are multi-layered tracks of percussion, sound design and stringy rhythms to start, then things slip into long, draw out passages of tunnel vision techno before the drums begin to hit harder to carry you home. At times playful, at others deadly serious, it sums up the career of Efdemin perfectly.
