Here is my remix of Lamb's - Butterfly Effect for the remix competition that they have put on.  Gone with an Old Skool Killa breaks feel to it with a little dubsteppy twist and a touch of glitch work so for any breaks fans out there hopefully you'll enjoy!

Well, by the time I'd found about this remix comp it was nearly over!  Started this little remix a coupla days ago.  Was going for a breaks mix to start with but I whilst experimenting I slowed Tessa's vox down a bit and they sounded bloody good - so, dropped the BPM and went for a dubsteppy style beat that floats in and out.

More and ambient mix really (and to be perfectly honest, I don't expect it to get onto an EP of a Drum N Bass track, lol :) but I did enjoy putting it together!

Thanks to Bustrexx & Subsphere for putting the remix comp out and hope you all enjoy this little chilled out piece of dubsteppy goodness :)

PS.  Make sure you listen to this with some decent Bass speakers, trust me :)

Kosheen - Spies (Doosloo's SL Remix)

So I was putting together a little mix of tunes and had Mr. Scruff's excellent Jazz Potato as the start of the mix.  Unfortunately, the lounge jazz feel that it had didn't really fit too well with the rest of my mix so I used the main sample from the track and put together my own little remix.

Once again, done using Reaper & NI's Massive.

Mr. Scruff - Jazz Potato (Doosloo's Baked At 100BPM Remix)

Maaan, have I had fun with this remix :)  The original track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILxORt-uCjA) is simply awesome so when given the opportunity to remix the track I jumped at the chance.  

I've tried to keep the spacious and epic feel of the original track but have also injected a little bit of groove and some dubstep style awesomeness to the track.  I've given it a few sinister style undertones that I hope I have managed to balance out reasonably well with some piano and some of the more orchestral style and choir samples that were included in the original track.  Crank up the speakers, roll up the bass and enjoy :)

Halfway through the ideas stage of this remix, my music PC died so I managed to cobble this one together from versions of plugins I owned that I could use on my Mac - so, all that was used in this was the original samples, Reaper, NI's Massive, T-Racks & Waves...  Oh, and a lot of straight sample editing!!

Sébastien Tellier - Russian Attractions (Doosloo Remix)

The original version of The Ghosts 'Underrated' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIC-bOdZmA4) is a fantastic little slice of uplifting electro pop goodness.  When this remix comp first arose I was quite excited at the thought of getting to pick apart the original and see what I could come up with.  After downloading the stems, the first thing that I laid down were all the vocals to see what I could fit around them.  Initially, I thought I'd go for a straight acoustic version of the song so actually sped the vocals up a touch (20BPMish I think) so that I could half time the rest of the track into a much more slow and laid back affair.

The next thing to go down was a basic piano part (using an excellent VST I've found - http://www.supremepiano.com/product/piano1.html - it's free and with some tinkering can produce a really warm tone :) to lay down the main chords that I'd be working with.  I'm pretty sure the chords are close to the original version so this made it easier to implement some of the samples from the original track, which was the next step.

I used a picked guitar part from midway through the original and sliced it up to produce a double time riff that worked with the main chords of the chorus and verse and then added a touch of delay to give a half time second hit.  I also added one of the secondary synth lines which, with the guitar part, gave the track a bit more ooomph :)  Once this was done, a rough drum beat was laid down (using the original cymbal samples) so I could lay down some acoustic guitar parts.  First of which was a straight up strum, the second a main picky lead line and the third a supporting under track.  At this point everything seemed to be falling into place nicely so two bass lines were added, one using a slightly tweaked saw wave in Massive and the second recorded live on my Fender Jazz '69 to give the saw a bit more punch.

Next up a bunch of pad synths got added (Massive / Absynth) and a few more of the samples from the original were implemented in, namely the bells, a supporting piano part and another of the synth lines.  To flesh out the main vocal line a bit, a number of backing vocals were recorded and I roped a friend of mine to come round and record a violin line to lay over the top.  And that was pretty much it...  Except that when coming to the mixdown, I had major problems getting my "rough" drum parts to sit right so... 2 days before the deadline, I completely scrapped them and started again, doh!  I kept the drums pretty simple (I do have a habit of over complicating things :) as the rolling drum part seemed to compliment the way the track was structured - I know they could be a little more delicate but I really liked the big beat mixed with the acoustic nature of the track!

That's about it - quick mastering in T-Racks (oh - and a lot of automation!) so it didn't sound like I'd recorded everything in a matchbox and it was done!

The Ghosts - Underrated (Doosloo's Bliss Remix)

So, here's my latest little creation :)  I've been working with the Arma II (DayZ) Scripting Engine and am working to build up my skills so I can hopefully start creating a little mini-series.

In the meantime, as I hone my skills, I'm going to be producing a number of little DayZ ShortZ : A set of short movies that will be created in my quest to become better at DayZ Machinima creation!

The first little snippet is a short epic based around 2 characters and is hopefully a good starting point!  This is the musical score that was created specifically for the video.

I've tried to keep the awesome feel of the original but have added a bit of that Doosloo 'Step' groove to the track to give it a bit more punch :)  Even though I've heard it hundreds of times now I still love it so hopefully so will you guys!
