Rotterdam based producer DJ Crisps follows up releases on Riz La Teef’s ‘South London Pressing’ and Bristol UKG label Time Is Now with three original dubs that blur the lines between garage, hardcore and breakbeat. 

Crisps has a knack for breaks (see Freedom with Ell Murphy). Luvin You walks the tightrope of rough and smooth; it’s chipmunk vocals, ethereal atmospherics and nostalgic samples creating a plethora of heads down and hug-in-the-rave moments. 

It’s A Dark Day is a tale of anxiety. Beginning with soft, uplifting chords it begins optimistically before bassy swells of darkness surface amongst spooked-out vocals and huge wubs. Music Is My Life sees Crisps return to garage territory with a soulful stepper that evolves into a dutty, no phones allowed affair. 

Rounding off the record is a remix of Music Is My Life from standout producer Mani Festo following a wicked release on Sneaker Social Club. He delivers a typically transportative, perception-altering cut of emotionally-stirring breaks that showcases the artist's infatuation with the tension between futurism and tradition.

Cada track es una reversión cuidadosamente masterizada, donde el beat retro se transforma en una experiencia electrónica moderna. El corte central, 80's XTASY, encapsula la nostalgia de una época dorada, evocando sintetizadores, luces de neón y cuerpos en movimiento. Es una celebración de cómo la música de los 80 mutó, evolucionó y sigue latiendo en el corazón de la electrónica actual.

🎧 XTASY is a sonic experience that connects the pulse of the 80s gym music with contemporary electronic aesthetics. Inspired by the melodies that set the pace for workouts in the 80s, this album reinterprets my first steps into musical production, merging memories with a current perspective.

Each track is a carefully mastered reversion, where the retro beat transforms into a modern electronic experience. The central track, 80's XTASY, encapsulates the nostalgia of a golden era, evoking synthesizers, neon lights, and bodies in motion. It is a celebration of how 80s music mutated, evolved, and continues to beat in the heart of today's electronic music.

Gerd Janson: “Sometimes, it's enough to hear a record out loud in a party context to fall in love with it. “Gordon” is such a record. Made one day before Miami's infamous Rakastella party, premiered there on Will Renuart's “The Kiss” stage and being one of the highlights during a shared slot with DJ Tennis, I was secretly hoping for Running Back to get awarded with it. It basically sums up all the qualities of a DJ Tennis set: you get the highs and lows, the loud and quiet parts, it pogoes and it prances and it's basically impossible to resist his shuffle. “Starck” on the other hand, scales it a bit down, but is equally overwhelming as are the atmospheric respectively cinematic versions of both tracks – less imaginative people might call them ambient. Game, set, match! Thank you, Manfredi!”
