Born into a family of church organists, Doug Loch was determined to follow his own musical path. A classically trained pianist and guitarist, songwriter, producer, singer, percussionist and DJ, Doug's versatility and deep grounding in music from a young age ensures an inherent musicality to everything he does.

With a strong belief that music should place equal emphasis on melody and rhythm, Doug reflects this in his own compositions, and in his DJ sets by his music selection and his trademark long melodic mixes. Elements of deep, organic, progressive house and breaks are present in his music, and he blends a variety of genres to create his own distinctive sound, creating music that is original, interesting and emotive. This includes extensive use of syncopation, switching between major and minor keys, and melodies supplanted with additional harmonic touches.

Doug started playing new wave music in bands from 13, and his first club experience was at Manchester's legendary Hacienda, in 1986. The following year his school rock band won the UK's TSB Rockschool competition, with the  national final held at Camden Palace in London (now Koko) and screened on BBC TV. Gigs all over Manchester followed. He flirted with DJ'ing while at university, but preferred to be in the thick of the dancefloor, which continued across London's clubland throughout his 20's. He took up DJ'ing and production in his 30's, using Logic and releasing on myspace. His track "Falling" was featured in the cult film "Kidulthood" in 2006.

Doug moved to Sydney in 2007, and continued DJ'ing and went back to playing in bands and playing solo - he regularly plays and sings original music and cover songs in a local pub in one of Sydney’s creative hubs, including collaborating with various other local artists. For a period of time, music production and DJ'ing took second place to family commitments and a successful and demanding  legal career, until a redundancy in 2023 provided an opportunity to recommit. 

He switched to Ableton Live and studied the DAW at Sydney's Liveschool, where his background as a musician, experience using Logic and DJ'ing gave him a clear advantage. Immediately after completing the Produce Music course he enrolled on the Release Music course, but thinking ahead to that, he launched his own platform and brand, People Like Us in early 2024, in the form of Sydney parties and a record label , each both bearing the same name. 

Essentially created to provide a platform for him to DJ and play his own original music out in venues, the People Like Us parties attract a crowd of like minded people, fostering a community based approach and providing a forum for like minded music lovers to gather and celebrate their mutual love of music and dance. An extra sizzle is provided by live vocal performances, while the music policy reflects Doug's equal emphasis on melody and rhythm mantra.

The second party was the launch party for Doug's first original release, "Resonant", which came out on his People Like Us Music record label in late 2024. This was followed by the double A side "Team Green" and "Dig Deep After Rio" (composed in the immediate aftermath of the 2023 Return to Rio festival), and then "Standing Around", originally written on Logic around 20 years ago. 

Doug's first three releases have been featured on Electronic Music Australia, Data Transmission, Ibiza Sonica Radio, Ibiza Radio One and Acid Stag, while his unreleased track "Dark Storm" has been remixed by Danny Bonnici and played by Hernan Cattaneo.  

Doug recently completed an Aussential Mix for Electronic Music Australia, and has been booked to play at the UK's Give! festival in July, after initially playing there last year.
