Finrod+Galadriel has to do with the passage in the Silmarillion where Finrod tells Galadriel things are about to go badly.
The following paraphrase:

FINROD+GALADRIEL

Amateurish stuff about the Silmarillion, no intent to infringe JRRT


The refrain follows the first four lines of the poem of the Eärendillinwë that Frodo heard when he walked off for a minute during the evening in Rivendell and suddenly heard Elvish voices chanting.  The remainder of the piece is intended to shift into sort of a theme of the Silmarillion overall (sort of a cinematic theme) and doesn't follow the rest of poem's words.
Sharp listeners will note a few influences:

1) the spots where it seems to pause are the short bit of music when Aragorn tries to give back the Evenstar to Arwen, shortly after the halfway point of the Two Towers movie (when we had discs it was a minute or 2 into the 2nd disc after Eowyn gives Aragorn the rabbit stew ("The Evenstar does not wax or wane...").  With a triumphal major-key phrase-ending intended for Beren & Luthien that differs from the Two Towers phrase.

2) a few places I borrow from the Returner's Hideout theme in Final Fantasy 6.

Eärendillinwë 2022 06 13 Rough

My favorite track of all of Maurice-Alexis Jarre's Shogun soundtrack, is sadly not on the shorter version of the audio CD of the soundtrack.  Much later it was included on Intrada's much longer Audio CD.

Not intended of course to infringe on Jarre or the producers of the series.

This is similar to what I uploaded earlier it's just that the miniseries used horns extensively, rather than the String section voice that I played it on the FA-08 with, so I have run it through MuseScore 4's horn voice to give an impression of what it more nearly sounds like on TV.

Dissatisfaction Expands To The Available Space

A very short ambient/jazz track with some pads in it

It is sort of like, supposed to be a cutesy update of the little amusing short piano thing in Winger's apartment before he does the pushups at the beginning of Stripes(1981) with Bill Murray.  That they play for about 2 loops.  I know how to play that by ear too and get good satisfaction out of that just laughing at it.

This one per the cover art is sort of an update to Soyjak life in current-day dystopia industrialized cities or something.  He's got his little delusion graphic in his head that things are fine and reality is the smog etc.

Nite Prowl

A new version of the Eärendillinwë  that I earlier released 10 months ago, but
in pure piano form, so that people can hear the chord structure
better, with a more relaxed pace where I could put the
phrases that were missing from the first one.

When I recorded in summer 2022 I had the metronome click
on and felt rushed for time - this version puts some good
things back into it.  Those with a good ear for cinematic
music will note that I am borrowing the ending phrase partly
from a scene in Richard III (1955) with Laurence Olivier.
Those who don't know it - go watch the movie.  You'll instantly
recognize where I pulled this from.

All rights reserved to the Tolkien Estate and whoever currently
holds the music rights to the Richard III movie.  This is very
pointedly a non-monetized, free track.  Just as the earlier version.

It was originally performed by Toto and not released until the Expanded Soundtrack CD in 1997 by PEG

This is a totally free track and is not monetized at all.

It is a rather iffy sequencing job...
But it's the thought that counts.

This is the first time combining my Roland FA-08 output with the Akai MPKmini 25-key Midi keyboard (and hence, software synthesizers through Mixcraft Pro 10.5)

I used Mixcraft software synth instruments long before on about Track #63 and #66 for remixes of Other Duties as Assigned and the 1st Theory Versus Application, or so, but it was lock step all the same notes as the Roland's MIDI file and just instrument replaces.

For now this is a preliminary draft, by 9/12/2024 it had 3 variants already.
I truly did move stuff around more than I have since the last -direct- use of Mixcraft for -instruments- 15 months ago.

9/16: on release i regret that the 4th version instead of the 3rd one went into the competition on Itch as the submission, this last one went one instrument layer too many.  But I was excited to be using the Akai MPKmini for the first time to flange together things after an export from the Roland FA-08 to the laptop

Foul-Mouthed Parrot

2024-09-22 AM:
Cleaned up the intro (there were hesitations in the in-universe news bulletin) and balanced the vocal levels so the instrumentals weren't drowning the singing out.  This was a struggle because one intermediate remaster this morning went too far the other way and it sounded like I was doing spoken poetry with very faint instruments!

A Longish electronica track which is a spiritual successor to Just Such Stupendous Personages As Ourselves (CCCXXVII) although not originally intended as-such.  This has a pair of off-chords in it so i don't know how much i'll necessarily push it as a piece.  Everybody by-now knows that I make things more to not-forget-the-idea rather than super polish.  Although when 5% of them accidentally are polished, it's pretty pleasant :)

Scraping MIDI from mp3 carries its own inaccuracies and perils but one way to smooth it over is to use pad-like sounds so that repeated staccato 32nd's sound continuous.  This seemed to work well.

I mean the particular tones used to mask the mandolin-like effect were chosen maybe sub optimally to sound more like the Beatles chopping up calliope sounds, they would be better later changed to string-instrument pads more in line with violins and stuff.

The Spooky Tune Jam premise is you don't have to come up with a new monster you can just pick something very down the middle like Frankenstein but I thought it would be an inspired way to write something unique to pick the Snail...

The joke is there's a popular engagement-farming tweet on Twitter about the offer of a billion dollars or some huge amount, but the catch is: there is a Death-Snail (important details: totally indestructible totally unstoppable) with instant contact poison that slowly comes toward you at half a mile an hour for the rest of your life.  Q: Do you take the money / how do you deal with this as a problem solve for avoiding the snail until you die of natural causes.

It's been thirty-five years approximately since I actually used a Dragonlance AD&D 1st edition module with Lord Soth in it

So it's been a while since I fired a shot in anger on this one in TTRPG terms, although surely in the interim I've dealt with this sort of thing on MUDs.

So with upbeat chorals in the front section we're shooting for the start of Ghosts'n'Goblins mixed with some action where he loses his girl in a Mina's original lookalike in the 1400's in Gary Oldman Dracula Vlad the Impaler beginning sorta business.

The Death Knight (01 - Wandering The Aubergine Threads Of Madness) Impressions Comp Jam #1

The challenge was to re-use a short musical motif in as many times and ways as possible in 2 minutes.  It doesn't have much layering because the turnaround on the music jam was pretty short.

Whimsy #2's (Track XIV) instrumental gives the intro some help between :09 and :14...

Welcome To The Struggle

The Alpha Remaster of Hanlon's Razor which is a fairly successful track of mine in its own right.  The concept of these 'alphas' is very minimal timing fixes.

The timing fix for Back To The Edge (Track LXXIX) which didn't need much.

The Alpha remaster to Hump-Day Baroque.
In this instance the piece did not need to be further globally sped up as a 2nd step ; the 1st step of just doing micro fixes and splices all over seemed to be sufficient.

Hump-Day Baroque Rag (Alpha Remaster)

Something I picked up from 2 different Twitter conversations.  The original MIDI of the synthesizer performance is a shambles, Mixcraft then later being used to heavily stretch almost every single section to distort its length to the same as the vocals for each.

The lyrics of this has trouble toward the end and I think it's already a prime candidate not too far in the future for an (Extended) where i fix stuff.
And I'm seeing that on the same night as the release but I really badly wanted to get the initial process over with.

Pretty funny coincidence that my 358th release would be the same number as part of the video game's title.

I gave this a try but I have not really ever tried to match my music to specific video cutscene timing till now.

A not quite perfect remaster of a -very- difficult piece to do remastering for.  It's a bit better maybe not great.

4% faster made it sound less hesitant at any rate

Well-Adjusted To A Profundly Sick Society (Alpha Remaster)

Based on some odd Twitter/X convo around Craigslist being used as a dating app back when apparently that was more common.

Lyrics:

Surveying torpidness is really not my drip
But someone mentioned a craigslist relationship

I don't really go for all that guff
About electric meat robot stuff

But i really found myself failing to miss
The probable exploit vector in this

I came for promised pigs in space
And was wrecked by the tale's sordidness

It's like the pair invented gorgeporn as a word
Without any particular subtletly

Though the story edges on implausibility
Don't judge me for trying to find a woman that gets me

Be Attitude For Gains!

The remaster on this is very minimal and not only that, the ending because it's such slow paced introspection is left at the same tempo as the original.  At this early time in my tracks when i did repeating sections I didn't very often go to this effort level to make a differing end-section.

The Unlikeliness Sets The Boundary (Alpha Remaster)

Some remasters are like five minutes, this one was one of the hard ones that took like an hour and fifteen minutes.

You're Nihilistic Just Because You Haven't Met ME (Alpha Remaster)

This one needed a lot of post mastering similar to how I would have done an Alpha Remaster, maybe that is on my brain now that I have been doing a bunch of those but the composition also lent it to this method.

This almost wasn't the version I wanted to upload as I was layering it with more instruments when a power outage hit at 8:30am on the day of submission.

Anyway I did some fractionations where I split the piece up and did inserts so that it feels like there are more consistent repetitions of themes within it.

I was glad they got the power back on around noon so I succeeded in doing the instrument layering but it maybe suffers from being under the gun time-wise.

for quite a while into the day I had explanations in here saying the PDF was only of the v1 Draft and not the v2 Final but both the scores and the MIDI files of both versions are in the submission now.  Many sincere thanks to the showrunner of the competition for giving us another 24hours.

A cardinal example of the idea that at least other artists on Soundcloud will understand what the -attempt- was, but not necessarily everybody :)

The smugness had gone sour

A therapeutic journey into a mix of jazz, classical, and a blend of types of electronica.  And a wry, gradual observation that promotion tends to only go as far as you push it.  At least I make my fellow musicians laugh a little.
