He's lived in many parts of Chicago, but the west side is his home. Doughboy taps into his experiences growing up in Chicago, one of the largest, most famous, and arguably the most violent cities in America, in order to take the listener on a journey of life and offers a behind the scenes view most artists fail to. Spending some of his childhood years in south suburban Harvey gave him an outlook on the south and the burbs involvement in what's now referred to as "Chiraq".  At it for a while now, he first picked up the pen and pad when he was around 13 years old and started freestyling over radio hits before he started to take his craft seriously. When it came time to name himself, he kept it as real as he could. His grandfather, a big influence on his life(whom he also draws inspiration from, take note to “Get Down 2 It”), gave him his stage moniker due to the resemblance as a baby to the famous Poppin’ Fresh character. Doughboy felt no need to create a pseudonym to perform under and is often referred to as simply “Dough”.
 Since founding the crew The 1500’s in 1996 with former high school schoolmates Lupe Fiasco, Bishop G and Napo, Dough has been through his share of ups and downs, but has been molded by the tribulations. After the 1500s crew went their separate ways, Dough, like his friend Fiasco, decided not only to embark on a solo career, but also start his own company, 1500 Entertainment, named to pay homage to his humble beginnings. There is a gritty realness to his music that is well thought out and not the typical “shoot’em up” music that is associated with today’s hip hop. Dough's discography includes "1500 Entertainment Presents...The Golden Mic Vol.1" (2005), ''Doughboy & 1500 Entertainment Presents...The Golden Mic Vol.2" (2007), "The Keep Hope Alive Mixtape" (2012), & the highly anticipated "Hope Rising" (2013). He's currently prepping a joint mixtape, " Damaged Hope" with fellow 1500, Bishop "G" of Lupe Fiasco's F-N-F slated for this Spring, and an album "The Only Hope" this Summer. 
The releases of the 2 upcoming projects respectively will put the spotlight back on the substance of music. "A song is like a sandwich. You got the bread, which is the beat and chorus, and then you got the meat, which are the actual words", says Doughboy.  Looking to raise the bar for acceptability, his versatility is a formidable tool. If you like variety and a true depiction of real life, then you can't afford to cheat yourself .
