DOUGLAS MCLEAN 

Canadian Songwriter Douglas Eldon McLean has had a long musical journey starting in the late 1970 ’s with the Sudbury blues/rock band BattleCreak. As well as being a powerful blues singer, he started writing songs both in the rock genres and folk traditions that he was influenced by. He later went on to play Northern Lights festival in Sudbury for several years and recorded a collection songs known as Doug McLean 1976 that were featured in the artist series sponsored by Sudbury company Inco and played on television and radio stations. That aspect of McLean’s career culminated in a journey to Toronto and then onto Los Angeles to find a way to sell and sing his songs. By the late 1980’s McLean found other priories in his life more pressing and withdrew from active performing.


In 2013, inspired by the resurgence of local singer - songwriters in the Muskoka area, McLean started to perform in some local venues and brought forward a full group of songs that he had written in the intervening years.  In March 2014, he released collection of new songs; “Under A Cold Black Moon” that unravel with authenticity and shine a light on a man’s journey through the wisdom of the heart. Recorded at the Barn Studio in Huntsville, Ontario, the set features renowned local musicians including Marion Linton on violins, Imre De Jonge on drums, bass and piano, and producer Shannon Lyon on electric guitar. McLean has crafted a set of beautiful songs reflective of both discovery and a careful awakening to the preciousness of the northern experience
