Douyé is a Nigerian born jazz recording artist based in Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A. Like a breath of fresh air, her sound is unique, sophisticated, captivating and timeless; Douyé stands out. Her presentation in styling of songs is distinct and alluring, she brings life to the songs that she sings. Douyé is also a songwriter. Prior to coming into the jazz world, she self released her debut classic R&B album in 2017 and the album is titled "Journey." In 2014, she released her sophomore album under her label,Groove Note Records/BBM and the album is titled "So Much Love." So Much Love album track title is a tribute song to the legendary Fela Kuti. So Much Love features fine musicians Rick Braun, Eric Marienthal, Andy Sync, Philippe Saisse, Dapo Torimiro, Ron Jenkins, Ricky Lawson and more. The album was mixed by Ray Bardani and Mastered by Bernie Grundman. Both the album Journey and So Much Love gained great attention worldwide. Douyé and her co-writer Terry Shaddick wrote all the songs on both albums. In 2015, Douyé made a distinct decision to move onto being a jazz singer. She followed a promise that she had made to her late father on becoming a jazz musician. Douyé says "that promise that I made to my father haunted me to the point that I was restless until I finally agreed to fully become a jazz songstress." As a child growing up, jazz was the first kind of music that was introduced to me and it was my father that introduced it to me. My father was a lover of jazz music and I was very close to my dad and so, we'd listened to jazz music daily for hours. My childhood experience with jazz created my love for the music. Douyé says, "My father used to say to me that jazz is life and that one cannot do jazz as should until one goes through the motions of life. I used to wonder what he meant by that, but now I know." Douyé debut jazz album titled Daddy Said So was released on 07/07/2017 and the album consist of 14 classic jazz standards. Instantly the album gained an enormous attention and with that success, it brought a forefront attention to Douyé name and her artistry to the jazz world. Daddy Said So lasted on the Jazz weekly charts for over 25 weeks consecutively. Daddy Said So features celebrated jazz musicians as Ron Carter, Kenny Barron, Russell Malone, John Beasley, John Clayton, Roy McCurdy, Bob Sheppard, Jeremy Pelt, Willie Jones III, Justo Almario, Jonathan Blake, Benito Gonzalez, Otmaro Ruiz and many more. Douyé continues her promising artistry in jazz and is currently working on her next project with a release date to be announced shortly.
