I’m Dovanni Malloy and I’m a certified 90’s baby. I was born and raised in Tampa, FL with my mom playing everything from Robbie Nevil to Jodeci in the house, so my love for music took root pretty early on. I took my allowance money and bought a Kenny G CD. “Songbird” was and still is one of my favorite tracks of all time. My musical palette has always been very diverse. Everything from hip-hop to house music! I began writing when I was in middle school and started rapping by the time I was in high school. Artists like Nas and The Lox played a very early role in influencing me. I’d be lying if I said Drake didn’t have a hand in that. Emotional rappers didn’t exists, until he came around. That was what showed me that it was cool to be emotional and to express how you feel. Musically, I always respected the way they wrote and structured their bars. That’s why my style is what it is. I like to be intricate and witty with my raps. When I was really young, I always struggled with confidence issues. This kind of held me back for a long time, as far as actually recording myself and putting it out, goes. It wasn’t until I was in my mid 20’s, that I began actively recording the songs I’d been working on. I think my fear of failure and not being “good enough” is what took me so long to come out of the shell I was in. Once I realized I had what it took and that other people’s opinions really didn’t matter, my perception on being an artist changed. Art is to be appreciated by those he see it and love it for what it is. Period. Your art is meant for somebody, but not everybody! That’s what I had to figure out. 

It’s a trend to have vintage things, now, but I’ve always had a love for them. I collect cassette tapes, go on random drives and play them in my vintage Benz for fun, while I’m on the way to a thrift store. Doesn’t get much better than listening to some good music and copping somebody’s grandpa’s shirt for $3 on Tuesday, because green tags are 50% off! When it comes to music I’m focused on organic growth and staying true to myself. I’m the type of person who can go somewhere, see something that gives me a feeling and hear a certain kind of music in my head that fits that feeling. People, places, things and music are all intertwined. I wanna make music that the people can relate to, tells a story and brings good energy to the table. This thing we call “life” has a soundtrack just like the movies and I just want my music to be apart of it!
