Grecco Romank and producer Body Beat Ritual unveil their collaborative EP Bootlicker, a visceral reimagining of Grecco Romank’s scathing critique of power structures into a clubland juggernaut (a clubber-naught if you will). The release merges Grecco’s “brutalist sewer pop” with Body Beat Ritual’s stripped-back EBM, delivering a track equally suited for warehouse raves and nihilistic catharsis.

Bootlicker describes the world through Grecco eyes: an infinite recursion of sycophantic masochistic impulses that keeps the ruling class’s boot firmly on the planet’s neck. Bootlicker asks ‘What mysterious appeal does the boot hold?’ Perhaps its particularly leathery taste fulfills a humiliation kink of the self-loathing middle class who see themselves as ‘temporarily embarrassed millionaires’.

The track’s lyrics — “Bootlicker / Lick the dust” — dissect authoritarian absurdity with the band’s signature dark humor, while distorted Eurodance hooks collide with sewer-pop grotesquery. A contemptuous anthem for Auckland’s underground, where decayed opulence meets bogan-techno rebellion. A brutalist fusion of EBM rigidity and darkwave melodrama, Bootlicker traps Fee and Sperring’s serrated snarls in a maze of corroded synths and jackhammer rhythms. The chorus — “This room has no room” — metastasizes into a claustrophobic mantra, its industrial beats mirroring the dehumanising grind of systemic control. Grecco Romank’s “sewer pop” ethos has never felt more urgent, or more venomous.


The Bootlicker EP features Grecco Romank’s titular track and a radio edit remix of by Body Beat Ritual.

Body Beat Ritual — whose work has garnered support from DVS1, VTSS, and Ancient Methods — dissected Grecco Romank’s original vocal takes to craft what he calls “a DJ’s tool for total dancefloor control.” He goes on to say:

The vocal demanded authority. I built the track around that tension between submission and rebellion — the kind you feel in a room where the DJ holds the crowd like a puppeteer.

A misanthropical slab of darkwave-infused EBM, Bootlicker traps Grecco Romank’s dueling vocals in Body Beat Ritual’s labyrinth of crisp synths and militaristic 909 percussion. The track unfolds like a seance in a black-market nightclub, its hypnotic repetitions (“This room has no room”) echoing the futility of dissent. Every ricocheting snare and warped bassline conjures the S&M tension between DJ and dancer, authority and bootlicker. Industrial music for a world rotting at the seams.

“The original version of Bootlicker was perfect so I focused on the vocal and built a track from scratch around what I thought a club audience would want to feel when they heard those words coming out of the sound system. There’s a lot of S&M influence in the dark corners of clubland. In some ways dancers come to the club to submit. “
