Some of which pre-dates his work with Ramleh, this collects all the tracks from the Broken Flag cassettes (BF67+BF70) plus previously unreleased and unheard tracks, now standing as the definitive presentation of the band's early years. Absolutely groundbreaking material in all it's damaged sludge fueled beauty. Instruments used include electric razor, washing machine, aerosol cans, and Roland 606 among many more. Absolutely essential. Limited to 250 copies worldwide, comes with insert, one time pressing. Remastered from the original tapes and cut by Josh Bonati.

Description:
Following the experimental streak thrown down by our two released albums, Modal Analysis proudly presents Het Zweet – Archives Volume 1: 1982-1988, a compilation of the Dutch outsider legend painstakingly picked from over 100 hours of unheard tape. An early electronic pioneer who employed homemade percussion, wind, and string instruments alongside a few more modern pieces, mainly a Korg MS-10 and the tape recorder he used as his primary composition tool, Marien Van Oers occupies a lonely branch on the tree of this music’s early efforts. In sixteen pieces ranging from only seconds to well over ten minutes, we explore the full breadth of his accomplishments, from familiar pounding industrial grooves with vocals to ambient fragments and into extended, entrancing efforts bridging this gap but finding few parallels.

Most closely akin to Muslimgauze, Test Dept. or Fad Gadget, all musicians who shared his outsider practice while remaining thoroughly immersed in contemporary sounds that paralleled their own work, Het Zweet is striking for the diversity of his sound and for its meticulous composition, formed of carefully arranged layers of sonic detritus culled from his collection of homemade instrumentation and electronic distortions. Also included is a live document from February 1984 in his hometown of Breda, Holland, whose sparse crowd noise and raw phonics tell all too well the difficulties of his music then as now. Finally rising to greater exposure since his death in 2013 alongside similarly minded, now-departed contemporaries like Byrn Jones, whose works also prominently appeared on the Staalplaat label/zine, 2022 marked the high point thus far of Van Oers’ reevaluation. Modal Analysis passionately continues this mission with our first volume of archives dedicated to the memory of this bold innovator gone before his time.

Together, they create a cold and immersive environment that will leave you entranced from start to finish. 

The album doesn’t follow homogenous guidelines nor conceptional requirements,
It’s a spontaneous expression of our moods facing obstacles of society.
Producing music to connect, grow, heal - a cathartic process.

While drinking tea and smoking cigarettes in our bedroom studio the procedure of making music starts with some sounds till we feel the direction of the song, then we begin to implant the lyrics.
The fast flow defines our collaboration which feels mostly symbiotic and unforced. In this way our creations become raw, honest and vulnerable.

"Dark Entries’ resident scuzzmasters De-Bons-en-Pierre return with the Card Short of a Full Deck EP, featuring six tracks of their signature sludge. In 2016, Beau Wanzer and Maoupa Mazzochetti fused forces in order to infect the world with their mutant analog strain, a noxious hybrid of 80’s DIY cassette electronics and 90’s Birmingham techno. Card Short of a Full Deck follows 2017’s Crepes EP and 2019’s EP No. 1 and EP No. 2, all released via Dark Entries. Their latest salvo features six tracks composed for a live performance in 2019. While a damaged sense of whimsy has pervaded their previous work, Card Short sees the duo ramping up the absurdity to obscene levels. Skittering rhythms dance over ghoulish basslines and haunting, rave-evocative chords on cuts “Le Râle du Mâle Alpha” and “Puddle Points”. Elsewhere, like on “Card Short of a Full Deck” and “Accidental Surgeries”, contorted vocals battle careening synths amidst post-apocalyptic waste. This deck’s not just short, it’s also full of jokers The sleeve for Card Short of a Full Deck was designed by Eloise Leigh, and features a punk zine xerox aesthetic with playing card motifs."

Having dedicated her life to unearthing the long lost gems of the early 80s via her Minimal Wave imprint, as well as curating thrilling modern music for her sub-label Cititrax, Veronica Vasicka has made a name for herself calling the shots from behind the curtain. Today, she steps into the spotlight as the headline artist with her highly anticipated debut solo 12″ on Regis’ imprint, Downwards. ‘From Here’ was recorded in 2004, with no intent to be released. Framed by a larger, more intimate process for Veronica, who was then keeping a sonic diary of her daily adventures via a 4-track recorder and analog synths, it puts into perspective the personal evolution and singular nature of one of today’s most acclaimed DJs and selectors to frequent the stages.

Setting up an out and out anxiogenic, eerie industrial atmosphere from your darkest fantasies, Veronica’s original mix burns slowly, like a glowing candle in the cold night. Exposing a musical identity both sensuous and disenchanted, the track gets all the more dancy and carnal in the hands of Regis, who tweaks it into a smooth libertine late-nighter. Second to counter-seal ‘From Here’, former Nitzer Ebb and Depeche Mode collaborator Paul Kendall transforms it into a more riff-charged, busy sound design where textured membranes dangerously bleed into one another as distortions convulse recognisable shapes into an abstract tableau of machine whispers and altered fragrances. To top things off in regal manner, Robert Hampson – founder of the legendary band Loop and also Main – adds a propulsive, hi-NRG twist and delay-soaked dimension to the vibrant multiverse that makes for a variedly-nuanced debut 12″. A unique, shape-shifting object that suits Veronica Vasicka’s complex musical persona like a glove. And finally, the artwork is designed by Veronica herself, featuring two self-portraits she shot on 35mm film at 16 years of age.
