The popular version of this song, written by Keith Getty and recorded by Stuart Townend, is very contemplative.  We gave it a more celebratory feel with instrumentation and arrangements that reflect our context.

The Power Of The Cross (Oh To See The Dawn)

The original version of this song had only a verse and chorus, but additional lyrics were written to expound on the character of God. The original verse speaks of God’s holiness, power, and might. The second, of His eternality, immutability, Triune nature, wisdom, and truth. Verse three hits hard with the sovereignty, righteousness, jealousy (for His own glory), and justice of God, as well as His wrath. The final verse articulates that God is gracious, patient, faithful, kind, and loving. These attributes aren’t exhaustive by any means, but they begin to paint a beautiful picture of how God has revealed Himself in Scripture.

Hosanna

“Jesus Is” has a very simple melody (like our other songs), which means the accompaniment that the melody lays in can be more intricate-–they won’t compete with each other. This song was originally recorded live by Hillsong London, and later covered in the studio by Sound of the New Breed. Our take is an expanded live arrangement of New Breed’s version. I think we’ve combined the best of both worlds–the energy of a live recording with singing and music more reflective of the context in which we minister.

Jesus Is

DOXA is the ministry of worship through song at Epiphany Fellowship Church in Philadelphia, PA (Dr. Eric M. Mason, Founder & Lead Pastor).  It is the mission of DOXA to provide theologically rich, contextually relevant, gospel-centered, God-glorifying music to, through, from, and for the urban context. The Greek word doxa literally means "glory."  Through musically excellent psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, DOXA invites believers to behold the glory of God in the face of Christ and respond to Him in worship, as well as equip them for the work of ministry.


Led by music director Aaron Johnson, DOXA fuses elements of gospel, jazz, neo-soul, R&B, and CCM during the writing and creative process.  DOXA also adapts songs for their context, rearranging them for an expressive congregational worship experience.  DOXA understands that the church has been set apart to glorify God–both where we live and dwell and during times of corporate worship through song.
