My interpretation for this is that this boss managed to take kris's soul, But It couldn't handle the power of the soul, So It died in front of Kris, and thats what made Kris so unnerved.

Hycrisik was once the pet of the Minister, but one day it ran away... seeking more than it had, it aims to trick a Lightner into giving it their soul.

In the Glass Garden, it hides and waits.
