This CD brings together Paul Zauner’s world-class musicians with three incredible gentlemen who truly deserve the title “Great Voices of Harlem”.
 “While Gregory Porter, born in 1971, empathizes with Harlem’s history, his fellow vocalist Mansur Scott, lived it - from the ground up. Scott was raised a block from the birthplace of bebop, Minton’s Playhouse, and hit the streets at 15, hanging tough with Lee Morgan, jazz tubaist Ray Draper and Charles Mingus, in fact Scott’s estranged mother copped with Lady Day. The third great vocalist is Donald Smith, a singer who also worked with Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Art Blakey alongside Jymie Merritt and Don Byas, but is probably best known for his ground-breaking recordings with his brother Lonnie Liston Smith. These three giants from very different backgrounds and generations, sing their soulful hearts out on classics like “Watermelon Man, “Moanin’”, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” or Horace Silver’s standards “Peace” and “Song For My Father”.
