This Version Of 'That Night' (Nee 'Killing Time')

And Never Really Saw The Light Of Day... 
I Did However Like It Enough To 'Play It Out' 
And Started Performing It By 1980

My Childhood Friend, Richard Meyer 
Worked For "Fast-Folk" Magazine
Which Was 'Thee' 1970s Folk Music Magazine 
But Was Limping Along In The 80's 
Keeping Track Of The Greenwich Village Folk-Scene
And Had A Certain Cache In The Folk World
At Year's End, The Magazine Provided 
A Compilation Of Newly Recorded Songs 
For Magazine Subscribers
Which Were Basically... Compilations Of People & Songs 
Richard Loved - He Was The First To Record Suzanne Vega 
& Countless Others - Sadly Richard Died 
Over A Decade Or So Ago Of Parkinsons 
But Was Quite Brilliant In The Late 90s
To See The Internet Coming & The Need
To Get The Smithsonian Involved  
To Preserve HIS Fast-Folk Recordings
In the 21'st Century

As I Recall The Session Happened Around 1987 
Richard Was Putting Together A West Coast Fast-Folk Record
And I Believe Richard Had Asked Me To Play 'The Goodyears'
I Showed-Up With Deborah Holland To Sing The Harmony
We Found A Stand-Up Bass Player
Denny Croy & Recorded Goodyears 
After That 
Richard Asked Me To Hang-Out & 
Do Another Tune Later  
That Turn Out To Be This - Love Calling 
Which Had Been His Favorite Goldman Song
And Even I Was Shocked That The First Pass 
At This Four-Minute Piano-Thumper
Went So Well - I Was Vamping At The End 
For What Seemed Like Forever 
When I Looked-Up To The Control Room & 
Saw Richard Who Was Far From A Demonstrative Person
Standing Behind The Board Dancing & Waving For Me
To Keep Playing... 
Later I Had Said To Him... 'This Isn't A Folk Song'
He Whispered Back 'It's My Favorite Song Ever...'
It Appeared On Fast-Folk's Last Record 
"Lost In The Works"  Released In 1989?ish
