Oscar P & FNX Team Up For Filtered African Blues

For the past 25 years Oscar P has been fusing afro-latino and deep house influences from NYC, Chicago, and Detroit to create a unique sound that defines his style today. 
His discography has grown over a variety of labels including Strictly Rhythm, Tool Room, Yoruba, Kolour Recordings, Open Bar Music, MoBlack, Naughty Boy, and Balance Music. As a producer, he’s done remixes for Mark Farina, KiNK, Soul Minority, Jamiroquai, Adele, Omar, Todd Terry, & Physics.

FNX is one of the pillars of the house music movement in Morocco. After the success of his remix of “Candela” by Southern Groove (a #1 Top 100 seller) his impressive compositions opened up the international doors. Projects soon followed on labels like Offering Recordings, Seres Producoes, SOLE Channel Music, TRIBE, MoBlack Records, Open Bar Music, United Music, and Muzik 4 Tomorrow.

Final Days

Midi Minds Kenya in conjunction with The Safari Collection, Backdrop Agency & Madorasindahouse travelled to Samburu National Conservancy to capture and highlight the musical identity of the Samburu warriors, women and children, in the form of a song based sample pack, a documentary format video, and a Various Artists music compilation (VA). 
This project is set out to raise awareness, financial ability and cultural highlight towards the Samburu tribe and community, through using selected Recordings for the production of this 19-track compilation. It features productions by Laolu, Armonica, Da Capo, Caiiro, Shimza, Sifa, Umami, KEENE, Klement Bonelli, XtetiQsoul and many more, as well as local Kenyan talent, such as Suraj, Saint Evo, Foozak & Dylan-S. 
After visiting the Westgate area of Samburu, and discussions with the community leaders, we found the most common day to day issue they face is lack of educational infrastructure. We firmly believe that this is a cause worth advocating for.
The community is not able to establish a sustainable educational system and that is why part of the proceedings will go towards building a class-room in the primary school and provide sustainable contributions to the teachers fund. The whole process will be part of a documentary that will be released along with the Compilation, in an event held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 30th of November 2019.

Mòo & Jo return to Mobilee keeping their ethos of traditional African instruments with a deep and melodic house aesthetic close to the forefront.

What strikes you first about “Munuli” are the jazz tinged vocals of Awen, delivering an almost ethereal sound; that brings to mind worship and fervour as the chorus join for a peaking vocal melody which transcends genre with it’s authentic and standout messaging.

The stripped back drums provide a melodic tribal tempo that lends itself to anytime of day or night, for one of those rare and perfect uplifting dance floor moments.

The other elements at play interweave themselves with Awen's vocals, building into a beautiful crescendo that isn’t often found in clubs today; the raw melodic synthesizer meets a classic piano, giving a flashback to a classic sound with heartfelt chords and creating a track that will both stand the test of time, and provide an honest reflection of what people want to dance to in 2020.

The EP then concludes with “Expand”. It delivers an altogether different story, an energetic and suspense filled peak-time melodic journey; whose spoken word story encourages you to “Expand your mind, free yourself”. Needless to say, this energy coupled with the growling sultry bass of “Expand” ensures that it will be finding its way into the bag of the most discerning club selectors this Spring.

MoBlack, Emmanuel Jal and Henrik Schwarz come together to release ‘Chagu’ on Defected, following its previous vinyl-only outing. With a powerful and evocative spoken word narration provided by South Sudanese-Canadian artist, actor, former child soldier and political activist Emmanuel Jal, he seamlessly transitions between dialects, speaking in primarily English and Nuer (Thok Naath), a language from South Sudan and western Ethiopia. Produced by MoBlack and Henrik Schwarz, both of whom have worked with Emmanuel previously, the two producers each provide their own version of ‘Chagu’ on the release. Opening with Henrik’s, the veteran German producer and Innervisions regular brings his signature crisp, harmonious composition with velvet synths and a probing bassline destined for the most impressive of soundsytems. MoBlack’s version follows, as the Italian producer, who spent over a decade living in Ghana, demonstrates his rich scope of musical influences with a classic Afro-house beat and hypnotic percussion that captivates. Both visionary producers, Henrik and MoBlack’s versions are equally impactful without distracting from the immediacy of Emmanuel’s lyrics, making ‘Chagu’ a truly exceptional release.
