This is the sonic appendix of my dissertation thesis for the Master program of Anthropology and Regional Development at the University of Bucharest, Romania.

During the six weeks of fieldwork in Apuseni mountains (Alba county, Romania), I recorded some of the sounds that make up the sonic landscape of the area, in an attempt to demonstrate that a sonic landscape is not a static and passive thing (like a painting or a rock), but an active force that reflects aspects of human activity in myriad ways. 

Thus, I captured the sound of the rivers, the clanging of domestic animals, dogs barking, the sounds of crickets, chickens and wild birds, the sound of a distant airplane, sounds of human activity (lawn mowers or cars passing by), sounds from domestic space (sounds of doors in the house I lived in, of the wood-burning stove, the white noise created by the fridge and freezer), recordings of traditional signals, calls, and horn playing interpreted by tulnic players, as well as recordings of my own attempts to learn to produce sounds from the tulnic instrument. 

The recordings were conducted on various days, and especially in different research contexts. For example, excerpts from individual interviews and focus groups with tulnic players indicate the presence of a multitude of sonic agents that occur simultaneously with our discussion (cars, people, sounds from the surrounding environment). At the same time, this also indicates the researcher's position in the field, in an uncontrollable environment. 

These recordings were edited and subsequently mixed together using the software Adobe Audition. They constitute a sonic storytelling. I recommend listening to the sonic research piece using headphones, for a better comprehension of details and intricacies that may reveal.
